I asked Ivy to drive me to an hotel. I needed time to think without anyone around. She let me in front of the building. I thanked her for her help and walked inside the building. I booked a room for the night as Doth Skeldamel and paid in cash. I entered the little room. It was dark and smelt a bit funny, but it would be enough. I took a long shower, rubbing off the makeup and when I looked up, in front of the mirror I could finally see me as Y/N L/N and not as Dolle Theskamd.
I never thought that changing of identity could be so tiresome. I laid on the bed and hugged my knees. I had put the joker card on the nightstand. My eyes couldn't stop looking at the curves of the red smile of the joker card.
The Joker knew something, that's obvious. But I also knew that nothing comes for free. I was scared of the price to pay. Changing of identity was something but being associated with the Joker was something else, something at another level. It was more dangerous. I didn't know if I was able to handle it.
I tried to sleep but the night came with nightmares. I saw myself being buried by the dead body of my sister; I saw Robert being killed by the owl man. I could hear hysterical laughs behind me as I ran into the darkness. I was followed but I didn't know by what. I was running as fast as I could, but my legs became heavier and heavier at each step. I knew that the thing behind me was about to catch me and something bad would happen if it catches me, but I couldn't run, I was stuck. My legs didn't respond. And then I was falling into the darkness, nothing to catch to stop my fall. I crashed on a hard ground and all my bones hurt like hell and I woke up in sweat, laying on the floor. I had fallen from my bed because I moved too much during my sleep. I panted as I went back under my blanket and I shivered.
After one hour, rolling into my bed without falling asleep, I knew that I couldn't just stay here. I had taken my decision. I packed my stuff into my bag. I put a black coat on my shoulder, the hood hiding my face and I shoved the joker card into my pocket. I walked out of the hotel and caught a cab. I gave the address to the driver.
The driver stopped in front of a old house in a neighborhood where half of the houses seemed to be empty. I paid the driver and watched him driving away before walking to the front door. It was three in the morning but there was a light at one of the windows of the first floor.
I knocked. I heard steps coming toward the door before it opened. A tall woman opened the door. She had a skin as white as porcelain. Her hair was separated by a part. One part was as black as a raven the other red like a dark cherry. She had tattoos on her arms, and she was wearing a pink dressing gown. Her eyes were burning me under her gaze.
"Can I help you? ", she asked with a smile. She didn't seem bother by the hour I came knocking at her door.
"I'm sorry to bother you" I said then I showed her the joker card. She looked at it and her smiled went bigger. She grabbed my arm and pushed me inside, closing the door behind her.
"A friend of my pudding is a friend of mine" she exclaimed.
She led me to the living room and my eyes widened when I saw Ivy laying on one of the couches. Under the artificial light her skin seemed almost green.
"Y/N?" she exclaimed when, she saw me. She stood up and hugged me. "You should have told me that you're coming here I could have driven you."
"To be honest I wasn't sure to come here at the first place" I said with a little smile. I was happy to find a known face.
