(Y/n) was busy waiting tables at the local restaurant. The place was unusually busy today. Applewood's annual rodeo celebration was being held at the end of the week and plenty of cowboys had started to roll into town. Most were planning on competing in a number of competitions the rodeo had to offer."(Y/n) can you clean off table 12? The last customer left a mess." One of her co-workers asked.
"Sure thing!" (Y/n) replied before hurrying over.
As (Y/n) began to clear off the table she found her thoughts drifting back to Tennessee again. It had been a week since he'd left and she couldn't help but worry about him. He was still recovering from his injuries, he was vulnerable. If someone really wanted to hurt him...
(Y/n) shook her head, she couldn't worry about that now. Tennessee was a grown man who could take care of himself. Right now (Y/n) needed to focus on her work. She quickly finished bussing the table and went about her business.
Some time later things slowed down. It was nearing closing time and by now most of the patrons had left. (Y/n) was preparing to serve what would most likely be the last customer of the day.
"You ordered a cup of coffee and a slice of coffee cake right?" (Y/n) asked, her eyes trained on the tray of food.
"That's correct, thank ya darlin'." a rather familiar voice responded.
(Y/n)'s head snapped upward in response, she must be imagining things, right? There at the table in front of her sat Kid Cooper himself. He was dressed differently and lacking both his hat and mask but (Y/n) recognized him immediately.
"What are you doing here?" (Y/n) hissed quietly,"you can't be out in public like this, someone's going to see you!"
"Yer worryin' too much," Tennessee chuckled, "ain't no one round here gonna recognize me like this."
"How do you know that? Your face is literally plastered all over the place. Everyone around here knows of Tennessee Kid Cooper."
"Yer the only one round here whose seen mah actual face. The rest of these folks ain't seen me without mah mask on. An' considerin' that yer the only one to recognize me all day ah'd say mah disguise is purty darn solid." Tennessee casually replied, pausing to take a sip of coffee.
"I don't think a plaid, blue shirt and some denim jeans really count as much of a disguise."
"Sometimes it's best ta hide in plain sight an' that's exactly what ah'm doin'. There are plenty of cowboys round these parts, Ah reckon they ain't gonna notice one more. Besides, Ah'm a might bit curious about this here rodeo. Ah might just have ta stick around and see what it's about."
"I still think this is a horrible idea." (Y/n) huffed.
"We'll see." Tennessee remarked with a smirk.

It's been forever and a day since I've updated this story. Sorry for being so inactive lately, I've been pretty busy with work.
The drawing attached to this chapter is a wanted poster I drew of the Kid a while back.
Hopefully I'll be able to write the next chapter in a timely manner.
Thanks for hanging in there! Love you guys! 💛
