CHAPTER EIGHT - OLD FRIENDS.

______________________________________________

TESSA'S POV.

Waking up this morning, I looked pitiful. My hair was a total mess and my eyes were puffy. My head banged a little. It's been a while since I slept without Peter and it sucks.

Now I'm in the sitting room seeing some cartoons while waiting for Maddy. Mom had made me breakfast before going to work but I didn't have much of an appetite. After some time, I hear a few knocks on the door.

"Hey," Maddy says as I open the door. "Let's get going." She says as she goes to her car.

"Sure." I mumble as I lock the house and hop into her car.

She turns the radio on to calm the awkward silence as she drives. It's been so long since we talked like this so I don't expect everything to seem normal. She's the only person I used to call my friend until she became the leader of the cheerleading club. She got so distant and I guess I started hating her for ignoring me. I made sure to make it obvious that I didn't need her in any way.

"So tell me what happened?" She says as she pulls over at a park.

"It's kind of a long story. Let's just get seats first." I follow her as she walks into the cafe.

We order some orange juice before taking seats close to the window. Once the drinks arrive, she looks at me expectantly, waiting for me to talk. I start from the beginning, explaining from when Peter had the accident and how I caused it. I also tell her about how he thought she was the girl he had a crush on. I tell her about how he found out everything was a lie and refused to to me.

"You mean that I kissed your boyfriend?" She gasps and I nod. "OMG I caused all these."

"No no. It's not that at all. I was the one who carelessly crossed the road. If I didn't run away like that, he wouldn't have lost it all." I say, feeling distant.

"Why didn't you tell me about this from the start?" She frowns at me and I shrug. "You just hated me so much and now I've given you a reason to hate me more." She lifts her hands in frustration.

"I don't hate you for this. Well I did but I don't anymore. But you almost made him lose his whole memories again and I hate you for that." I say calmly but I know she feels my anger. "Why would you cheat on him?"

"I don't have an excuse. I'm sorry I did that but I've explained everything to him." She says apologetically.

I don't know how or why but I know she's truly sorry. "It's Kelvin right?"

She nods as she sips her juice. "After what happened, I told him to keep his distance and he did. He has refused to talk to me too."

"So we're both terrible people." I say and she laughs richly.

"Yes we are, Tessa." She smiles softly. "I missed you Tess."

"I missed you too. But before we start getting all happy about talking to each other again, promise never to ignore me again." I say and she chuckles.

"I promise never to ignore you again. But you have to make a promise too." She shakes her head and pouts. "Promise never to write hate messages on my locker again."

We both laugh, remembering what I did in seventh grade. I was so mad at her after she ignored me in front of all her new friends so I took a permanent marker and wrote 'I hate you Maddy!' on her locker.

"I promise I won't do that again." I say as I try to recover from laughing too hard. "You deserved it though."

"Whatever. Since we're both miserable, I was thinking–" She trails off as she talks.
