"A shot in the dark. A past, lost in space. Where do I start? The past and the chase. You hunted me down like a wolf, a predator. I fell like a deer in love lights. Now I'm falling to pieces." - Sia, She Wolf

~

Newt

He didn't die, much to his dismay.

Instead, he woke up in a completely dark room, similar to the one he first started out in. However, it seemed more substantial, the air lighter and the chair underneath him firm and the ropes around his wrist tight and chafing.

He let out a yelp of surprise, straining against his bonds, the ropes rubbing against his wrists. He was tied to a chair, his wrists bound to its arms and his legs firmly tied together. Finally, he gave up struggling, choosing to accept his fate.

He breathed in, the air smelling faintly of vanilla.

But everything, his dreams, the Stinging, the fact that he couldn't move, seemed trivial now that he could remember.

He could remember everything.

His whole life had been returned to him in that one flash of light.

He remembered the Flare, his sister Cassie, his mother, his father. He remembered the day he was taken to WICKED, under the lie that he was being tested for a 'special school for very special kids.' He remembered all the tests he needed to pass, all the examinations. He could remember the people in white lab coats, the blank room, the water. They said it was a stimulating serum as he was being lowered into the blue, gel-like liquid.

Everything fell into place.

All except for one.

There was hole in his mind, a crack in time, a rift in his memories.

There was a girl.

A girl with blonde hair and kaleidoscope eyes.

Everything was erased away, and only a name remained.

Elizabeth.

The lights clicked on.

He drew in a surprised breath, the sudden change of brightness unsettling him. He looked around, finding that he was in a long, white room.

The ceiling seemed to glow bright white, and no bulbs or lamps could be seen. In front of him was a tall-backed chair. Pure black, made of suede. The back curved delicately towards the sitter, whose back was turned away from him. He could only see its back.

A small, delicate hand reached out, oddly out of place from the looming black chair, and snapped its fingers.

"Dim," a melodic, female voice said from behind the chair. The lights immediately dimmed to a blue-ish, soft white.

"Turn on."

The back of the chair, which he initially thought was fabric, flickered to life. Lines of blue and green static ran across the black surface.

"Enjoy the show." He could almost hear the smirk in her voice.

He focused on the screen, which had changed to show a grainy, security camera picture of two people, a boy and a girl. They both had blonde hair, and looked very young, around ten.

"What are they doing to us? These tests, the water, the scientists... What is going on?" the boy's eyes were wide, and he was wringing his hands in desperation, "they told me this was a special school!"

The girl shook her head, sighing, "it's not a special school. You're going to save the world. Did you see that girl with blue eyes at the computer screen? She's Deedee, and she's part of the project too!" She took his hands in hers, "you're going to cure us all!"
