A sound could be heard from the thick metal ceiling. People of the Nest were curious as to what the sound was, for even explosions could not be heard or felt through it's impenetrable walls.
"Thank God! Someone found us and is here to save us! We are almost out of food." One man said.
"Just in the nick of time, I tell you. I don't know how many more weeks we could have gone, even rationing to the extreme. This is surely a sign from God." Another man said, smiling widely and looking up to the source of the sound.
The sound went from a banging noise, to a drilling noise.
"What if it's..." A brown-haired woman began, "One of the enemies?"
"Nonsense. Why would they be randomly drilling holes? We are doomed down here anyway and we aren't even contributing to the above world anymore. This is definitely a rescue mission. There are no records of us even being here. The only thing I can think of, is one of the constructors of this Nest is alive and told someone of our location. We're saved!" The man finally let out a burst of joy and the other members of the Nest shouted in celebration.
Finally, the drill poked through the ceiling. It was massive, tipped with some type of diamond-looking material. It withdrew back above ground, and tall men in suits slid down tough ropes. They were dressed in some sort of metallic armor. There was tubes leading from the chest to their mask. It was tinted a dark green and what was behind the mask could not be seen. Massive gun-like instruments attached to their left arm as if connected indefinitely to their limb.
"Oh, thank God!" The woman who questioned their intentions screamed with happiness, running up to one of the five that came down. She hugged the mass with a smile, looking up at the mask. It peered down at her, cocking it's head to the side. Behind the mask, she saw that this was no man. It was some sort of animal, some sort of creature with two tentacles stretching from it's squared chin into the tubes that connected to its chest. Its eyes glowing flourescent blue and was scaly and hairless. She tried to let out a scream, but instead dropped to the ground in a heap as it injected her with something from its right hand.
Everyone stood still, now wary. "What did you do to her?" A man asked, bringing himself closer to the creature. "What the HELL, did you DO to her, I said?!" He balled his fists up and clenched his teeth.
"That is, a sign of aggression to us." The creature said. Something about its voice was harmonic, almost like it was an electrical voice. It spoke to them in their mind rather than sound waves.
"What the hell... What are you?" The man asked, advancing slowly. It was soon apparent to him that this creature's eyes were glowing brightly, and that it was not human. The man shouted and turned to run. "Everyone hide!" He yelled. As the last word came from his mouth, the creature raised it's weapon from it's left side. A burst of electrical light engulfed the man and what remained was a small pile of ash.
One by one, each man and woman was disintegrated. All but one small man.
"What should we do with the last one?" The creature asked another.
"Maknar. We'll keep it, and that other one. Inject it. We need to know what these things are." The leader creature ordered.
"Yes Vonzat." Maknar nodded and reached out to the man, injecting him in the neck.
