warning: they do fuck i'm the middle but it's not full smut. also, i really love this one.zach slowly opens the door to his mother room, trying to be as quiet as possible. he looks in and sees his mother laying in bed with the sound of the heart monitor and the tv. family feud played lightly just enough to no wake her up. it was late and zach had just finished his essay and rushed to the hospital.
this has been a common occurrence for the past year. his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and he has been with her every step of the way. her first chemotherapy treatment, he first surgery, her first everything. his father left and took his sibling when he saw the hospital bills.
now zachs main focus was him mother. he chose all honors classes and tried his absolute hardest to make it through senior year. he wanted to get a scholarship that was full payed so he did everything he could. every night was taken up by homework and. the hospital. the weekends were all work, from 5am to 11pm. there was no stop for him.
zach had become absolutely degraded but he knew that once his mother was cured, it would all work out. zach close the door behind him and turned to his mother.
"hey mom" he whispers. she turns around in her bed to face zach. "hey baby." he face was drained of color and she had no hair. zach hated seeing her like this but he loved her no matter what. "sorry i came in late, i was writing an essay" zach says with a yawn. "sweetheart, you don't have to do that. please put your sleep and schoolwork before me."
zach nods his head and grabs her hand. "i love you momma, but you will come before everything else." she kisses zach with her cold, dry lips and watches her son as he pulls out his phone.
"here, i promised reese and ryan that they can facetime you." zachs mom face lit up when she heard her younger children's names. zach starts the call and waits for them to pick up. after about two rings, they do.
"hey zach, is momma there?" "yep, one second." zach rolls over her table and places the phone on it so it stayed put. they got a perfect view of there mother. "hey munchkins." "mommy" they both cheer. zach smiles at their interactions.
he hasn't seen his dad or sibling in months. he took a day trip to see them but then his mother began to get worse so he had to stop leaving town. a lump formed in zachs throat as he thought of his mother passing. he hated the thought of never seeing her again, even if they fought when he was a child.
zach tapped his mother leg and signaled toward the door. she nodded her head and turned back to the facetime call. zach slowly got up and closes the door. he put his back up against it and let out a sad huff. it was hard to be ther only one to take care of your mother. his mother should be celebrating his teenage years with her but instead he has to take care of her in ther hospital.
sure it was hard but it was nothing he couldn't handle. he loved his mother to death. one small tear runs down zachs cheek but he quickly wipes it. he walks down to the guest area and grabs a coffee cup. he pours the coffee and senses a presence next to him.
he turns to the side and sees a curly headed nurse getting a cup of coffee himself. zach lightly smiles at the boy but he couldn't show to much emotion considering the lack of sleep. "hey" zach says softly. "hi" the nurse responds. "you work here?" "no i'm an in turn, i'm only a senior in high school but my mom works here. she insisted i got a job but i only do small things." zach nods his head and yawns again, squeaking at the end. jack cooes at the young boy.
"tired?" zach shakes his head despite feeling the opposite. he slowly starts to walk out the the guest room but begins to loose his balance. he felt like he was going to pass out. "woah, woah" jack says, rushing over to the boy. zach looses his grip on his coffee cup and almost drops it.
