"You actually let them go?!"
Darkiplier paced in front of his throne. The way he was yelling at you, you were surprised he hadn't killed you already.
"After all your training, after all we've put you through--and you can't do the one thing that we asked you to?" Dark yelled. "Do you know what could happen if they got their hands on the wrong information?"
You shook your head timidly. You were afraid to move at all in case he decided to vaporize you or something. Admittedly, you weren't entirely sure of what they could do, but it scared you nonetheless.
You sneaked a peek at Tyler and Ethan, who were still standing close behind you. Ethan was trying to put on a brave face, but you could see his chest shaking as he took shaky breaths. Tyler was a little harder to read, but his eyes were afraid. Honestly, you didn't blame them for turning you in; you would have done the same to them.
"I'm going to ask this one time," Dark stated, sitting on his throne and facing you. "How many times have you let them go?"
Briefly, you considered telling him about your chase with the civilian after curfew, but decided against it. You were in enough trouble as it was. Besides, you didn't really know whether it was them or not, so you played it safe.
"This was the only time," you said quietly.
"Good," Dark stared down at you. "It may have been a small act of treason, but it was still treason. For this crime, you'll spend the night in solitary. And Anti will have the rest of your punishment ready for tomorrow morning."
As if on cue, Anti appeared in a cloud of pixels. His face held just as much anger as Dark's. Not only that, but an obvious expression of disgust when looking at you. You bit at your lip and looked away.
"Take her away," Dark commanded, waving his hand.
Tyler and Ethan reluctantly grabbed your arms and pulled you out of the room. Dark and Anti watched them drag you away.
"Well," Dark said. "That's another one."
"How many are going to be punished before they learn their lesson?" Anti asked. He shook his head. "You'd think they would learn by now."
Dark stared at the door where you had gone, then spoke again, "In the morning, when you punish them, leave bruises. Let everyone see the damage cause by insubordination. Then, they'll learn."
"Absolutely," Anti said. "I'll make an example of them."
"No, wait, you guys don't want to do this!" You begged Tyler and Ethan as they threw you into the cell.
"I mean, they're not wrong," Ethan said to Tyler as they closed the door.
"That may be," Tyler said, "but we don't have much of a choice. What would they do to us if we let (y/n) go?"
You moved to the window of the cell door and peered between the bars. "Why did you have to turn me in?"
"I'm sorry, (y/n)," Ethan apologized. "We both are."
"If we had any other choice--" Tyler started.
"No, it's fine," You said, walking away from the door. "I could've done the same thing to either of you. The things we do..."
"Good luck, (y/n)," Tyler said. "I mean that. If the rules were different--we wouldn't be in this position."
You watched him for a moment, then nodded. "I get it. The same way we wouldn't be shooting at people all the time."
Ethan looked at the floor in shame. He didn't like his job as a soldier any more than you did. Even Tyler looked remorseful.
"Good luck, (y/n)," Tyler said again.
The two of them walked away, leaving you in the cold cell. You turned to face the wall and hugged your arms around yourself. Your eyes were just starting to get used to the dim lighting. Seeing that you were going to be in the cell for the rest of the night, you moved to the bench an laid down.
The bench was hard and just as cold. You tried to get some sleep, but you knew it was almost pointless. With the dread of what tomorrow would bring, combined with how uncomfortable you were, you knew that what little sleep you did get wouldn't really help you that much.
Jack hurried into the base, out of breath, with adrenaline pulsing through his chest. He could barely even remember how he had gotten back there. Mark and Felix were back. Most of the team was still up, but a few had gone to bed.
"Oh, good, you guys made it back," Jack said, breathing a sigh of relief.
"Yeah, Mary was in the right place, thankfully," Felix said.
Jack walked past him, barely even listening. "I wiped their drive. They were getting close."
"What happened?" Matt asked.
"What?"
"You're acting weird," Nate said.
"Something else happened, didn't it?" Matt questioned.
Jack turned to face the group, who were all staring at him.
"Okay," he said, sitting down. "I got caught."
"What?!" The whole group said collectively. Their expressions changed within a second.
Jack put up a hand to calm them down. "Let me finish. I got caught, but I got away. Obviously. Actually, it was weird. The guard let me go."
"That doesn't make sense," Mark said, taking a seat next to him. "We're 'Most Wanted'--especially you and I-" he gestured between himself and Jack "--so why would they just let you leave."
"I must have been able to talk my way out of it," Jack shrugged. "I honestly can't remember. I think the adrenaline must have been goin' and I just--started talking. I honestly have no idea what I said."
"Well, as long as you didn't reveal where we are, we should be okay," Felix said.
The others nodded and prepared for bed. Except for Amy. She was just getting up for the night watch. Jack slowly followed and climbed into his bed. He couldn't shake the feeling that maybe he had said something to the guard--but what ?
