"I thought everyone was in for the night!" Mark called.

Everyone inside the base moved around quickly. There was only a few people still in bed. Jack, who had just started dozing off, jumped out of bed and came running at the knock at the door.

"Everyone was in for the night," Amy said. "Nate was supposed to be watching the cameras."

"I was!" Nate argued. Matt and Jack looked at him, suspiciously. "I may have fallen asleep for a few minutes."

"So who is at the door?" Stephanie asked.

Nate glanced at the cameras, with Matt and Mark joining him. "I have no idea."

"I'm gonna open it," Amy announced, moving up the ladder.

"Whoa, hang on," Mark said. He reached his arm out to stop her. "Why?"

"Whoever it is, either needs our help, or needs to back off," Amy said. "Either way, they know we're here. There's not much of a point in hiding for much longer."

"We can take 'em," Matt said.

As Amy climbed the ladder and began to unlock the door, Jack joined the others at the camera. His eyes widened when he recognized you. A nervous feeling started in his stomach. You were either here to take them down, or you were here to join them. He prayed it was the latter.

You waited outside nervously. The night sky was clear, but the wind was cold. Not to mention, you could see some guards wandering around, not too far away from you. That definitely wasn't helping your nerves. Suddenly, you heard the door open.

Before you can react, someone reached up and grabbed you by the arm. You tried to regain your balance, but you suddenly realized that you were being pulled down. You somehow managed to not fall down the hole, but you landed squarely on your rear end once the person let go. You look up to see a bunch of guns pointed at your face.

"Who are you?" one male person asked. The voice sounded like Dark's. "What are you doing here?"

You froze, unsure of what to say, even forgetting your name for a moment. "Which one do you want me to answer first?"

"Start with your name," a woman with dark hair ordered.

"(y/n)," you stated.

"What are you doing here?" another woman asked.

"I want to help you guys," you said slowly. You weren't sure what the response would be, so you tried to keep it minimal. "Really. I want to fight with your team against the Opposition."

"Prove it," one of the men said.

You look up at him, unsure of how to answer. Before you could, one of the women spoke again.

"How did you find us?"

"One of your guys told me to come," you said. "Jack, I think. He said your team was at the edge of town, so I looked. It wasn't easy, I'll tell you that, but--"

"Shut up," one of the guys said.

"They're telling the truth," Jack spoke up. "Come on guys, I'll deal with this. Go back to--whatever it was you were doing."

With one more wary look to you from everyone, the group lowered their guns, and backed off. That didn't stop a few of them from continuing to give you warning glares from across the room.

Jack quickly walked over, grabbed you by the arm, and picked up your bag. He pulled you through the headquarters, and down a long hall. You paused at the door, and Jack punched a code into a keypad, which opened a door, leading to a lower area outside.

"What are you doing here?" he finally asked once you were outside.

"You told me to come if I ever wanted out of the Opposition," you explained. "So I came."

Jack stared, so you continued quickly. "I don't want to be part of that anymore--I'm not even sure if I ever did--but the only way out was to come here and--"

"Hide like the rest of us?" Jack interjected. He sighed and rubbed in face in his hands. "Look, I don't know what you know about us, but we are constantly hiding from the people you were working for. This is not an easy road, so if you're one of us, you have to be dedicated."

"I am dedicated," you tell him. "I'll work hard, I'll do anything you guys say. But if I leave here again, I'll be thrown in prison for escaping. I have to hide now."

Jack studied you for a minute, probably to see if you were being legit, then nodded. "Okay. But I have to look through your bag first. Just to make sure there's nothing that can hurt anyone."

You nodded, understanding, but also knowing there was nothing that could really do any damage.

Jack unzipped your duffel bag, and began pulling things out. After shaking out some of your civilian clothes, he opened your little bottles of shampoo and smelled them. You thought that might be overkill, but maybe he had people sneaking in dangerous substances before.

He paused when he saw your military uniform sitting at the bottom of the bag.

"You might want to keep that hidden," Jack said. "I know your past, obviously, but they don't. They might have a problem with that."

"Got it," you said. You decided right there to throw it out later.

"Other than that, I think that's it," Jack said. "Welcome to the team."

After that, Jack lead you back inside. Most of the people who had challenged you when you had arrived were still awake and waiting for you two to return. Jack introduced you to everyone.

"They're legit," Jack said, referring to you. "They're on the team with us."

"Really?" Mark asked. He didn't even sound sarcastic, just genuinely surprised.

"Okay," Amy said, coolly. "I'm going to bed."

As everyone moved to do--whatever it was they were doing, you saw that only a few were watching you, while the others seemed to be avoiding eye contact.

"They're always a little hesitant with a newbie," Jack explained. "Don't worry about it."

"Okay," you said, unsure.

"I'll show you to your room."

As you followed Jack, you glanced up to see Nate staring at you, eyes narrowed and following you as you left the room. You looked down quickly, suddenly realizing that not everyone on the team would be as welcoming as Jack. You just hoped they would change their minds once they got to know you.
