During lunch the room is buzzing with activity, Bowers picking on random kids, throwing food and just being an asshole like usual. Popular girls flirt with the football jocks, while the normies wish they were allowed in the group. A boy gets tripped by Bowers and his tray goes flying, normal day at Derry High School. The Losers are sitting together on the far side of the cafeteria, their lunch table pressed up against the wall.
"I heard there was a new kid." Beverly declared as she sits down, her tray clattering on the lunch table.
"Really?" Richie munches on his food, "Who?"
Eddie grimaces, disgusted, "Richie shut your mouth that's fucking gross."
"No you." Richie opens his mouth, half eaten cheeseburger sputtering out onto the table.
"That's fucking-"
"Disgusting?" Stan interrupts. "Just one. Just one normal lunch pu-lease!" Stan frowns at his peanut butter sandwich, then pushes it away. "You see what you've done Rich? You've made me lose my appetite..."
"Oh my God.." Ben sighs.
"Sh-sh-shut up Richie." Bill laughs.
"Me?" Richie points to himself, "I haven't done anything!"
Beverly points to a girl standing by a boy with a bowl cut in the middle of the cafeteria. The boy looking confused and a little scared. The girl with a set determined look saying 'I'm going to find a table to sit at whether you like it or not'. "I think that's them."
Richie stands up and waves at the girl. Eddie drags him down, "Dude what's wrong with you?!"
"What!" Richie huffs, "They need a place to sit! And we took in Ben didn't we?"
Ben chuckles and rolls his eyes, "As if you had a choice, Beverly just couldn't resist!"
"Oh whatever Ben." Beverly winks.
Eddie shrugs, "I guess Trashmouth, but it's your fault if they end up being assholes."
Ben scoffs, "Oh I see how it is Eddie..."
Eddie throws his hands up in the air, "Well, I'm just saying!"
Bill sees the pair of new kids walk up to their table and he smiles making the rest of the Losers Club observe the lanky boy and short-haired girl.
"Uh, hi." The new boy says, "I'm Will. Will Byers." He has a bird-like appearance and, even from the sitting position, Richie can tell he's pretty tall for his age. His hair is brown and silky, and it swings a little when he moves his head. Will reminds Richie of Eddie with what he wears. A salmon colored polo shirt and black shorts. He wears white converse and a black watch on his right wrist. Richie wonders where he moved from.
Bill smiles, "I'm Bill Denbrough, n-n-nice to me-meet you."
The girl clears her throat, "My name is Jane. Or, if you like, Eleven." Her style is a bit more out-going than Will's and Richie will be surprised if they're related. Her hair is brown, shoulder length and tied into a half up half down. She's wearing a white jumper splattered with pink and navy spots. Her white converse are scuffed and slightly stained suggesting she wears them often.
Will narrows his eyes slightly at the mention of 'Eleven' and she puts her hands in her pockets. The awkward exchange and silence is interrupted by Stan. Will smiles at the curly-haired boy, Stan Uris he says his name is. He seems nice. There's a redhead who reminds him of Max, she has a sort of badassery aura.
"I'm Beverly Marsh. Where'd you two move from?" Will looks her up and down, she wears blue overalls with an white undershirt that says, 'Footloose' -Will smiles, he loves that movie- and a black key dangles from her neck.
"Hawkins, Indiana." Jane says.
Beverly startles, "What? No way I lived there for a while when I was little!"
That gets the whole table confused, the kid with the crazy black hair laughs, "No way Bev- I thought you lived here in boring Maine your whole life!"
"Nope!" Bev smiles, "And we all know it's far from boring here Richie." Beverly chuckles and leans on the table, her necklace clinking on the wood.
"Well, you could've told your boyfriend that you lived somewhere else..." The chubby kid chuckles, "My names Ben Hanscom by the way." He reaches his hand to Will and invites the pair to sit down. Will sits next to the chubby one introduced to them as Ben, his yellow shirt stretched tight across his back, and there's a small hole in the front. Jane sits next to a nervous looking kid with a fanny pack fastened to his waist.
"What's your name?" Jane asks him.
"Oh right um, I'm Eddie Kasbrak." Eddie gives a half smile, poking the zipper to his blue fanny pack. Jane peers at Eddie's outfit, slightly smiling at the short red shorts that remind her of Lucas.
"And I'm Richie Trashmouth Tozier." The kid with the unruly hair (who oddly reminds the two of Mike) and thick glasses grins wide at Will and Jane. "Welcome to the fuckin' Losers Club new kids." He gushes as he pushes his glasses up.
"Beep Beep Richie." Beverly glares.
"Beep Beep?" Jane's eyebrows raise, her tone sounds almost child-ish and the Loser's wonder how old she is, seeing as she looks the same age as the rest of them.
"W-well, when R-Richie c-crosses a line, as h-he us-sually does, w-we s-s-signal to him to st-stop by saying 'Beep beep.'" Bill explains.
Stan nudges Richie, "So you'll be hearing that a lot- that is if you want to hang out with us?"
Jane and Will nod nonchalantly.
"Are you all Sophomores?" Will asks.
"Yessir," Richie says in a British accent, "And we're all fifteen years of age, except ol' Stanley 'ere poor chap, 'es only fourteen."
Beverly clears her throat, "I'm sixteen Richie."
"I knew 'hat!"
Eddie rolls his eyes, "Okay enough with the British guy."
Jane whispers, turning to Will, "Eddie sort of reminds me of Hopper."
Will gives her a soft smile, "Yeah he is a little like a smaller version but less... uh... manly?"
"Manly? He's a guy isn't he?" Jane questions.
"Well yeah that's not what I mean- you know what Hopper was like," Will deepens his voice impersonating Hopper, he points a finger up in the air " 'Leave the door open three inches! I'm the chief of police, I do what I want!' and Eddie's more like... Well... " Will gestures to Eddie's outfit and fanny pack, "Y'know."
Jane nods and starts to say something before Bill asks them what their friends were like back home.
"We weren't exactly popular ourselves." Will laughs, "I guess we were a 'Losers Club' too."
