Chapter 5
"Come in then. We've lots to discuss."
Zaina POV
I'm awakened by the sound of people talking outside my tent. I've decided that I've had enough sleep to last me until nightfall so I got dressed, thinking about my dream.
Everyday since I've found out about the man who wants to marry me, I've had a dream about this other man. He is tall, with shoulders that hold great strength, he looks like he could crush me. He has a beard with long hair. He has tribal markings all over his body.
In my dream, he is holding something. He is holding it with such great care, care that would seem impossible for him. As I get closer to the man, I can see him smiling at it than looking up at me and showing me this amazing, earth ending smile.
Every dream he has blood on his hand but for some odd reason I don't seem to mind in the slightest. There are also men and women running around finding loved ones or at least trying to find them.
Enough about the gorgeous man, time to ask Evangeline about the whole stomach holding. As I walk out of my tent, I see my brothers and the wives talking by the fire, enjoying each other's company. I see my mother and father walking hand in hand along the forest edge.
They must be under so much stress, I think to myself as I walk to join my siblings and their wives.
"Look who decided to join us." Announced Bram with a teasing smile. I rolled my eyes with a smile on my face as I sat down. Kiara gave me a bowl of the leftover stew from yesterday night. I smiled in thanks as I began to eat. After a while my brothers left for their duties.
I watched Evangeline as she talked with Kiara. She had this look in her eyes, that sparkle that came with children. I've seen the other women in the village that have had children. They had the same look.
I put my bowl down beside me as I got up to sit by Evangeline. I just looked at her with a knowing smile.
"When were you going to tell us?" I asked with a smile as I looked at her stomach. Evangeline looked at me with wide eyes as she put her hands on her stomach.
"How did you know? I haven't told anyone." She said,
"I saw you when the man came for me. You held your stomach as if to protect it. Also I saw the sparkle in your eyes. The baby sparkle." I said with an even bigger smile as she looked down then back at me.
"You have always been observant." She said with happiness.
You're going to have a baby, Evangeline?" Asked Kiara, who had been quiet during our conversation.
"Yes." She said
"You must be very excited. When are you going to tell Willem?" I asked. This made Evangeline's smile disappear. I frowned at this, why is she not telling Willem?
"I'm scared at what his reaction will be. I don't want him to be mad. We haven't planned on having our children yet, but here he is. Ready to come into the world in the next few seasons."
I saw her sadness, which made me sad also. But I know that Evangeline has nothing to fear for Willem has always talked of having children when he was younger.
"How about you tell him tonight. Nothing you do will make him love you less, trust me. He will want to have children and he will be even happier that you guys will be doing this together." I said as I grabbed her hand and gave it a little squeeze. Evangeline was about to reply when the horns went off. I stood up and looked towards the entrance but nothing was there yet.
"Come on, Zaina! We have to get you into your tent. We don't know who it is!" Kiara said with fear. I nodded. We were soon in my tent, all three of us.
I soon heard my father introduce himself. The intruders did also but I couldn't hear what he said. My father started to sound angry. I hated to hear him like this. So I ran to the tent entrance, my brother's wives tried to stop me but I was ready to leave the tent.
My father must have heard me because soon I locked eyes with my father. He could see my fear. Who looked at me with a surprise look on his face but he soon looked somewhere else. He wasn't focused on me, so that gave me a chance to look at the intruders. There were about 15 strong, tall and hairy men who looked like they could take down my whole village.
But I saw a man who was in front of the whole group. And oh moon goddess was he handsome. He was tall, strong and had a great amount of hair on his face and head. But I found myself wanting to run my hands and mouth all over him. He wore a bear skin coat that looked so warm. He is a spitting image of the man in my dream.
My thoughts were interrupted when my father faced the man again and welcomed him into our village. The man walked behind my father with his head held high. He didn't look at me, just walked into the large tent with my father. That made me sad but I soon forgot that idea for, his men followed but some stayed at the entrance facing the forest.
What had the man said for my father to let him in?
