( Denmark's POV)
After being attacked by that damn fox, I had to let (Y/N) go and she ran away limping and whining like I was the reason she was hurt! Why can't she understand that she doesn't belong in this family?! She stole everybody's attention and now nobody acknowledges me! And now I'm being called the bad guy?! Why can't we be like what were before? Why did Emil have to find her and then take her in? He should of left her to freeze to death in the snow where we found her! It's her and Iceland's fault!~flashback to Greenland's discovery~
It was the tenth century when the Nordics discovered Greenland. Iceland, Denmark, and Norway were traveling on their ship until they found what looked like an unoccupied island.
They anchored the ship by the coast and decided to look around the ice covered island. Iceland, who was still very little, was carried by Norway as they walked in the cold.
"Big brother, where are we heading?" Iceland called out. "We're just exploring, but we might head to camp early. It's very cold and I don't want you to get sick." They walked for a few minutes until they headed back. Denmark had set up a little camp site where they could stay at for the past week or so.
As the days went by, they discovered more land and saw new animals. It was very extraordinary, but Emil just couldn't feel safe. It was like he was always being watched. It was until one day when he found out what was watching him.
After Iceland had ate his breakfast, he walked around the camp. That's when he saw (h/c) hair peeking out from the snow-covered boulder that was next to their camp. As quickly as it appeared, it went away and Emil became curious. He ran up to the large rock and looked behind it. But... there was nobody there.
That was until someone shouted "BOO!"
Emil quickly fell back in the snow and looked up. There, on top of the boulder, was a kid almost as old as him. She had (h/c) hair, (e/c) eyes, and an over-sized coat that had fluff on the edges of the hood. She was laughing at him until she slipped off the rock. She grunted in surprise and said something in a foreign language as she fell on Iceland. With quick reflexes, she got up and held out a hand for Iceland.
While a little hesitant, he accepted and got up. When he was up, the little girl started observing him. She poked and prodded at him, which caused him to slap her hand away. She backed up and looked up at Emil. He was embarrassed of all the attention and wanted to go back to camp, but he was curious. Who is she? How long did she watch him? Is she dangerous?
For the first time, Emil talked to the girl. "Who are you? What's you're name?"
The girl responded. "My name? I'm Kalaallit Nunaat, or Greenland. Nice to meet you, foreign guy."
"Uhm, well I'm Iceland," responded the boy. "How long were you watching me?"
"Oh, since you first got here. I sensed a different presence on my island so I just had to check it out. Turns out it was just you and your dads, or something. My question is, why are you here? Do you want my land?"
Emil awkwardly looked away. "Erm, well big brother and Denmark were thinking of claiming this land. They think it's the perfect place to start building their empire."
"Their empire?! This is my island!" Greenland screamed, tears forming in her eyes.
"Shush! My brothers might hear you!"
The little girl calmed down and looked Iceland right in the eye. "This is my island, see? This island is me! I can't be taken away! I have my people to look after!" She whisper-yelled.
"Well, maybe I could ask my brothers to not take this island? If they refuse we can't let them see you. If they catch you then your land is done for."
"Wait, so you tell your brothers about this?"
Iceland fiddled with the end of his coat. He had never lied to big brother before, so this would be quite difficult. But he wants something in return if he's keeping a secret.
"Wait- if I keep this a secret, can you do something for me?" He asked.
"Uh, sure? What do you want me to do?"
"Can you take me to some other place away from the camp? It's getting very boring to sit in a tent all day." Iceland asked. His big brother is too protective and won't let him out most of the time. Lucky for him, Denmark was watching him while Norway was away hunting.
"What? That's it?" Emil nodded in response.
"Oh, that's easy! Do you want to go to the springs?" Greenland asked.
The tiny boy thought for a second. He hasn't been to a hot spring since he and his brothers left to find land. There are springs all over his land, and he visited them quite often.
"Sure, are we going now?" He responded.
"Yeah! Let's go! They're just over these couple of hills"
They proceeded to run south, towards the hot springs. Quicker than Iceland expected, they arrived. Just looking at the springs got Emil thinking about his home. 'Is everything okay back there?' he thought.
"Uh, you can feel the water if you want." You said, interrupting his thoughts .
"O-oh, can I?" Iceland asked.
"Yeah! Just don't burn yourself so you don't have to explain what happened to your brothers. I don't want my cover blown-"
He nodded and took off his boots. Emil sat at the edge of one of the springs and dipped his legs in. As he did, he heard you taking off your shoes and then sitting next to him.
"So, where'd you come from, Iceland? I've never heard of you before." You asked, dipping your legs in the water.
"Oh, just East of here. I'm an island too. But smaller."
"It looks like we're similar, huh? Didn't expect that!" You exclaimed.
As you and Emil talked and talked, you started to feel more comfortable around him and started to get close. He saw you almost every day, but only when Norway was gone could he go to the springs. After knowing him for almost 3 weeks, a terrible blizzard happened that changed your lives for the better and worst...
