"Can you remember when I thought of you? When I cried over you?" She asked me, her graduation cap sitting lopsidedly on her head.

I swallowed.

"I can remember just fine," she continued. "I remember how Tanner held me together when you pulled me apart. You said you were falling apart. That I was doing it to you. But you had no idea what you did to me."

"I'm sorry," I started, "I didn't know that you felt that way, if I had I wouldn't have–"

"Wouldn't have what?" she asked bitterly. "Wouldn't have driven hundreds of miles away from your problem? Wouldn't have ignored all of my attempts to  contact you? Wouldn't have fallen for a girl who would inevitably betray you? Well, I tell you what you should've done. You should've let me explain. Because  a lot of things aren't as they seem, Lake."

And with that, she walked away, stilettos clicking against the floor.
