I fell in love with the University of Wisconsin-Madison at a young age. My mother's best friend and her family live in Middleton, Wisconsin, so visits always included going to Madison. Exploring the town made me excited to revisit every time, and I loved the university campus; Ian's pizza was enough to sell me on the school, but the farmer's market, tailgates, and live music everywhere I looked hooked me on the town as well. I am very familiar with big cities, as I have lived about forty-five minutes outside of Chicago my entire life. Let me tell you, Chicago is an intimidating giant to be engulfed in. Madison, however, was perfectly comfortable for an eight-year-old to fall in love with. The capital city paired with the homey, Midwest comfort was the mac n' cheese on top of Ian's crust.
As I grew older, I became even more interested in the University of Wisconsin-Madison when I began participating in my high school's marching band. High school game days are fun and all, but game days in Madison are on another level. I have always loved music, so joining band was an obvious choice for me. I joined competitive marching band and have never looked back. The University of Wisconsin-Madison marching band is incredible, with so much history behind it. It is obviously a very popular, and competitive, group, and will allow me to continue my passion into college. Even if I do not make the band, it will be surreal to get to watch the intricate performances at every game. The University of Wisconsin-Madison marching band is the cheese on top of the mac n' cheese and crust of a slice of Ian's.
At University of Wisconsin-Madison, I plan to major in secondary education with hopes of becoming a high school United States history teacher. I have always been a fan of social studies and reading, so when I got to AP United States History junior year, I was thrilled. Although the course content was challenging, when I was in that class, something clicked for me. I have always kept teaching in the back of my brain as a possible career option, for I have always loved leading and inspiring people. After that class, it was clear to me that I wanted to teach history for the rest of my life.
UW-Madison is a world-renowned school where I dream of attending and earning a degree in my favorite subject. It may have taken until junior year of high school for me to figure out my future career, but I have known that the University of Wisconsin-Madison is my home since I was eight years old. Becoming a United States history teacher is my dream career, but to get there I need to go to my dream school first.
