"Please dont stay in my heart

when you left me without a second thought"

-Ivy Carter-

I heard the door swing open, 'Why does nobody ever knock?' I thought out loud. I saw my Mum's head peep out from the side of the door. A look of disgust washed over her face as she noticed the mess that was my room. Her searching eyes finally fixed on me. Her face remained neutral as she assessed my current state, carefully taking my red, swollen eyes and stick thin body in. I breathed in sharply, living with my mother was like walking on eggshells, you never knew what she could say. It's not that she didn't care, it was more that she didn't know how to.

"You're a mess" She stated coolly

I sagged down, breathing out heavily before replying "Don't go too easy on me then"

"Well darling, If you don't want me to help you, don't expect my sympathy."

I wanted to scream, anger surged through me.

"Every time I try to reach out to you, you push me away, hiding me from society. You're too afraid of what your friends might think of the screwed up life I live."

I felt my mother's annoyance from where I was sat on my bed. as she murmured under her breath;

"Why couldn't you have just ended up like..."

I cut in, using a sharp tone.

"Just bloody well say it. We all know that you prefered Darren from day one. He was the perfect son, perfect student, perfect brother. And then I had to come along and ruin your perfect world."

"Maybe I did prefer Darren, he never caused me the pain that you do. Even looking at you hurts."

I screamed out before yelling

"If you hate me so much, then what I am still doing here? Surely you can find a way to get rid of me, convince me to join the army like you did to dad?"

"To be honest Ivy, this would be so much easier if you were gone."

"Fine then, I'm leaving, I'll travel or go to America, or go and live with Darren. Anything to stop this pain I'm putting you through'."

My mother stared at me, daring me to go on.

"In fact I'll go right now, I don't fucking need you, I don't need anyone. I'm done with this, I'm done with everything."

My mother still didn't say a word. She just nodded and left, stunned at my sudden outburst.

I looked down at my hands. Would this be our last goodbye?

I hurriedly packed my belongings, throwing clothes into a beaten leather suitcase. I grabbed my purse, phone, laptop and my journal, and stuffed them in as well. I forced the case shut, swearing when I couldn't close the clasp. As I picked it up, I could see that it wasn't just my mother that I was leaving behind, It was my whole life. In a brief moment of uncertainty, my hand flew to my locket, feeling the familiar shape of the metal in my fingers, and I knew everything was going to be okay. A new start would help me, It might be the only chance I ever get to escape.
