"so i assume you weren't jisung's classmate? he would've been 23 by now and you still look really young" jisung's mother says as she scoops a bowl of rice for minho.
minho smiles in return, grabbing a pair of chopsticks as he pokes at the food. "yeah, i'm actually much younger than jisung. we met online and we started becoming friends. i've never met him in real life though. if i could turn back time i would've met him before he..." minho drifted off, not wanting to continue with his sentence.
jisung's mum nods in silence, it was evident she was trying to hold back her tears. jisung looks at her sadly, wishing he could hug her and chase away her sadness.
minho looks over at jisung and back at jisung's mum, wishing he could tell her that her son was right in front of her.
jisung's mum blinked away her tears, laughing a little as she apologises. "i'm really sorry, i'm getting too emotional"
minho shakes his head, "it's alright. i understand how sad you must be, even though its been 5 years. the pain doesn't fade away, doesn't it?"
minho continues to eat the home cooked meal silently, while jisung's mother tells him all about jisung.
"ah, would you like to see some childhood pictures of jisung? i have a photo album right here" jisung's mother suggests as she gets up from her seat.
"oh my god, no please" minho hears jisung groan as he snickers.
"yes please, i would love to see them", minho says, making jisung groan even louder.
glaring at minho, he says, "i hate you, lee minho" minho shrugs his shoulders, putting on an innocent look on his face.
jisung's mother brings a photo book over, opening it up for minho. she points at a photo, which appears to be a small boy with cake all over his face.
"that's 3 year old jisung, he's really cute, isn't he?" jisung's mum says as she smiles at the photo. she flips to the next page, showing minho each and every picture of jisung.
jisung cringes each time the page is flipped, internally groaning at the embarrassment he was feeling.
"ah, here's one of jisung at the studio. he was recording a few of his own songs" she says as she points at a picture of jisung who appeared to be in his teens.
"he produced his own songs?" minho says in surprise. jisung's mum grins proudly, "he was really talented. some of them are up on youtube, if you want to listen to it. he calls himself 'j.one'"
jisung screams as he stands up, running across to the other end of the room. "why did you tell him that? now he'll get to listen to the songs"
minho snickers, making jisung's mum look up in confusion. he immediately stops laughing and scratches his head sheepishly. "ah, that's really cool. i didn't know he produced his own songs"
time flies by, and minho found himself at the front door, waving goodbye to jisung's mother, thanking her profusely for the lunch. "thank you so much, i'm so sorry to have bothered you"
"it's okay, feel free to come back anytime. jisung's friends are always welcome" she says with a warm smile on her face.
jisung stands at the door step with a sad look on his face, not wanting to leave her just yet. he feels his heart ache, and the familiar sad feeling overwhelmed him once again.
"goodbye, i'll come back again soon. i promise" he says as he waves to her, not caring that she wasn't able to see him.
"ah, before i leave, i just wanted to say that i'm sure jisung led an extremely happy life with a mother like you. so don't be too sad, i promise he's really happy right now, wherever he is." minho says to jisung's mum, who smiles widely in appreciation.
"thank you, minho" jisung says to minho. he did not expect minho to say anything, but he was grateful for it.
they walk side by side in a comfortable silence, admiring the town's beautiful scenery.
"so, j.one?" minho says to jisung teasingly, earning himself a punch on the shoulder. well i mean he didn't exactly feel the punch.
"ugh, shut up. now you're going to taunt me with this forever" jisung groans as he rolls his eyes.
minho pulls out the piece of paper from his back pocket, scanning the list. he was hoping there was something the both of them could do in jisung's home town.
"ah, you wrote down, 'spend a night at the karaoke bar'" minho says as he reads wish number 26 out loud.
"ah, that. i've always wanted to go to one, but never had the chance to. i'm a pretty good singer and rapper, you know?" jisung says as he raises one eyebrow proudly.
minho snickers in disbelief, "you wish. let's go to one right now, you know any karaoke bars around here?"
"ah, there's one right around the corner. follow me"
