The Clinging Friend of Grief

Death

We all pretend to know him

But none of us are friends with him

Nor his friend grief

Who no one invites out

But when he finds out you have plans

He'll barge in

Expecting to be able to tag along

And you can't say no

When you first meet him

He clings to you

He loves new friends

But after awhile

He'll leave you alone

But not forever

Sometimes he'll come and stay for a week

Maybe hang around for an hour

But once you meet him

He'll never truly leave

We may not like him

But sometimes he's good company.

His random infrequency

Causes dilution in the soul

And yearning for the past without him

But not knowing what the future would be like without him

But even if you don't like him

He brings the feelings of life with him

And sometimes

We need a reminder

So he'll stay awhile

To keep your soul company

When there's a leak

And no patch work can repair it
