My Best Friend

A phone shines bright

in the night

revealing an image

a girl smiling brightly

holding onto a dog

half on her lap

Both of them resting

on a green couch.

The phone is being clutched

by the girl in the photo

her smile has been wiped away

Her mouth ripped open

teeth wired shut

tears running down her face

the only sounds that escape her lips

are ones of sadness

and  what feels to be everlasting pain

The dog is upstairs

resting in an eternal sleep

on top of his dog bed

he was given last Christmas

her mom and dad are kneeling over him

as they contemplate on what to do

His soft ears will never be felt again

His tail is forever still

and his heart which gave out

will never rapidly beat in joy again

Goodbye My Best Friend

Hopefully, we'll meet again.
