tearfully, i watered a desert

i have strength in me
hidden somewhere,
and so do you.
after all, i know we were both children once.

the hand that guides the light
taught me to love,
by making rain,
and let tears kiss the thirsting earth
and i think then was when
i understood.

whatever god is left in me,
the salt of my tears,
i have strength in me and so do you.
i weep for the world and i weep for you,
i weep because i chose to.

and the earth will catch my sorrow,
wet the ground where i step,
the world will hear my heaving where i lay,
and know that i had wept.

you- red and bloodied lips leave red trails on my face,
there is a strength in you, i know it.
and i'll cry for you, i'll cry for the world,
the blood of your lips mingling with the salt,
bitter in taste,
my love.

i cannot kiss you, i could not hold you, i could not have the words to speak.
let me weep for you and cry out your name,
the only love i know.
and you- painted red watching me- will learn to do the same.
