CHAPTER TWO
IT HAS BEEN ABOUT TWO HOURS since you and Uyeda boarded the train back to Magnolia. To kill time, you decided to read one of the many novels you brought when you went on missions. Uyeda day beside you, the seductive canary seemed unable to sit still. She squirmed around in her seat impatiently, just itching to get out the train.
She pouts while she crosses her arms, looking out the seat window. Damn, I have nothing to do! I can't even talk to Mistress because she's ignoring me! she thought as she turns to you. Even under her gaze, you didn't look up from your novel; you even turned the page continuing to the next chapter! She poked your arm purposely, just to get your attention. At first, you were able to ignore her and focus on the book in front of you.
Until it continued for five more minutes.
"What is it, Uyeda?" you ask, not even looking up from your novel.
"You could at least look at me, Mistress."
You gave her what she wanted. You put down your book and gave her your full attention.
"Now, what do you want?"
"I want to get off this damn train!" Uyeda cries. "I don't understand why you didn't let me teleport us back to Magnolia."
You sigh, gently jabbing Uyeda in the stomach making her flinch. You to point at the rest of her wounds and bruises. "You're injured, Uyeda. Not to mention exhausted from excerpting so much magical energy. You and I both need rest."
Uyeda mopes.
"Pfft! I didn't nearly use as magic energy as you. You were in charge of the attack lead, correct? You were particularly leading the men of the town to victory and mainly fought on the front lines!"
What Uyeda said was true. To lead the dark guild out, you devised an attack with most of the villagers who offered their services and lead the attack. You even took on the guild leader head-on! He wasn't as powerful as you but that doesn't mean he didn't keep you on your toes. He was able to do some damage, but nothing you couldn't handle. By the end of it, you and your men left triumphant yet weakened.
"I know I put myself out there, but I'm more suited for combat. I was...made for this stuff." you trail off, looking down at your book. Uyeda notices the shift in attitude and lowers her eyes.
"Hey..." You turned to her with a tired smile, "Why don't we just get some sleep before we get back?"
Uyeda's worried smile morphed into a calm nod as she gladly rested her head on your shoulder. One thing you noticed about Uyeda was how she took a liking to you rather quickly. You couldn't tell if it was just her cat-like nature or something else but you didn't mind. You beam, snuggling up against her and dozed off.
