Kaden went digging for roots while I picked berries and looked for fish. We found a new tree, strong enough for Kaden to sleep in. "What did you used for shelther?' I ask.
"There's a lake, it's about half a day trip. Next to it is a cave, that's where I slept." Kaden replys as he takes a bit of the steemed roots.
The sky goes black and the anthem plays. The fist face to show up in the sky is the boy from 4, the first Career tribute to die. The girl from 8 follows. The sky goes black after the face of the female tribute of District 9 fades away.
"That's 12. 12 tributes are dead." I say.
"At least we're half way there." Kaden says.
"Yea, I guess." Half of the tributes are dead. 12 dead children in three days. I put my gloves on and curl into a ball trying to go to sleep.
"I'll watch over in case you fall out of the tree or if someine comes along."
I laugh as Kaden covers my mouth, "Shh"
"I'm sorry Kaden, but I've slept in trees before, if we need to worry about someone falling out of the tree, it's you." I say laying down, feeling the warmth and protection of Kaden wrapped around me.
I wake up to a scream, a scream of a girl. Kaden is woken up by the horrific scream as well and is in panic, "Iris? Iris are you alright?"
"I'm fine, but someone isn't." I say as I start to climb down the tree.
Kaden grabs my arm, "Your not going anywhere Iris."
"She needs help! She's gona die if we don'tmdo something!"
Kaden pulls me back up, "Don't you know that your not suppose to scream Iris? Someone couls be coming."
"Like who?" I ask
"Like the killer!" Kaden whispers when I hear footsteps.
"Do you hear that?" I ask. Kaden looks at me for a few minutes and then covers my mouth. The Careers start walking under our tree, congratulating Lance on his sixth kill.
"I like your strategy, give them a deadly cut, but not as extreme to make them die right away. Make them suffer from the pain and knowing that they'll be dead soon. Brilliant." Clinton, the boy from District 2 says.
"Thank you, thank you. She should be dead in about two minutes." Lance explains. He knows how long it takes hos victims to die by a certai throw of a spear.
"I call the next one!" Neida, the girl from 4 screams.
"Not if it's 11. I shot them. I already have my plan for both of them." Cierra states.
I start to feel tears fill into my eyes adter what Cierra said. I don't want her to kill me, anyone but her. She's eighteen and strong; I won't let her kill me, she won't.
After the Careers run back from where they came from, I climb down the tree and run to Lance's victim, the cannon didn't go off yet, so the tribute is still alive.
I walk through the bushes and find the District 5 female tribure, Manie Vanis, she's covering her wound on her stomach with her hands but blood is still pourng out of her body like a hose. I start to cry, Manie is Samarra's age, she's so sweet and kind; during her interview she was wearing a light peach dress, that complimented her pale skin, which is common of people in Distict 5.
I calm down, wipe my tears away and walk up to her, sit down and i put her head in my lap.
Manie looks at me in confusion, "What...w-what are you d-doing?"
