"You could really do that for me?" Jack confirmed for at least the eighth time. We were walking back to the royal grounds, and he still couldn't seem to wrap his head around the idea that he could see Vic again.
"Of course," I assured him quietly. I was beginning to wonder if I should really go through with this, but then I realized that I didn't want to see his disappointment. I had the perfect plan to pull this off, but it would require perfect timing and a bit of insanity.
Which I had both of.
Anyways.
We entered the palace grounds through a side entrance that not many people knew about. As far as I knew, my mom and I were the only ones who had known it. That was before she died, and now I was left alone with the secret.
"I didn't know this was here, and I've extensively studied maps of the castle," Jack commented.
"Yeah, not many people know about it. In fact, I think I'm the only one who does," I said, even though it was a major understatement.
"Cool," he said sincerely.
"Okay, so I have a plan, but it's going to be difficult, and in all honestly, you could get caught. I would most likely be able to pardon you, but there's always that small risk. Are you willing to take that chance?" I spewed.
He nodded with little to no hesitation. "Of course. I would do anything for Vic," I felt a pang of something sharp and heavy in my chest, but I refuse to accept that it could be jealousy. I don't have a crush on this boy that I had taken in and saved from my father.
"Okay, so, at four 'o clock everyday, the guards that "protect" the dungeon-aka make sure prisoners don't escape-take a lunch break. Their alternates are lazy as shit, so they don't arrive until five. We'll still have to sneak past the guards in the hallway guarding it, but that will be easy as long as you're quiet," I explain the plan, but then come to a realization. "Wait, actually, I know a better way. We can sneak in to the dungeons through a tunnel a prisoner built in their cell that noone ever repaired. They just don't put people in there anymore."
"It's perfect!" he said, his eyes shining.
I checked the time on my phone with a grin, and saw it was 4:01. "It's go time," I said as I dragged Jack to the tunnel entrance right outside the garden.
I was glad Jack had come along. I needed an adventure.
