I tell myself to relax. he probably won’t talk to me anyways. there’s no reason of why he’d want to talk to me anyways.

I sit down on the seat next to him, careful to touch him. the desks are pretty close to each other so if we both leaned back in our seats, our arms would touch.

“I’m Luke,” he says, as if I didn’t know that already.

“Laurel,” I smile, trying to hide the fluttering in my stomach that the butterflies are causing.

after our little exchange, the teacher begins teaching and there’s no chance of talking to Luke.

it turns out that we got new seats because we’re starting a new group project and she didn’t want us with our old partners. I didn’t mind anyways,I didn’t want to be with Marina for another day since I could hear her screamo through her headphones.

after about ten minutes of listening to her drone on about the project, everyone turns to their partner to discuss what they’re going to do.

“do you have any idea what we’re doing?” Luke asks, turning to me. he obviously didn’t listen too much. I explain what we have to do and he nods his head along with me. “that doesn’t seem too hard.”

“yeah, the only problem is that she isn’t giving us class time.” I pretend to be sad, but really, I’m happy that I get to spend time with Luke outside of school.

“we can work on it at my house after school and probably get it finished.”

I cannot wait to tell my friends about this.
