Daniel stood there in shock as he studied my face. I saw Stephen in the corner of the room with his mouth slightly open in surprise.
I turned back towards his majesty. "I've been meaning to surprise my husband as this would be our first born. But I am afraid I have over done myself with excitement and now I feel quite weakened." I started to sway a little and Daniel caught me and balanced myself out.
"Such wonderful news. Congratulations to the both of you." his majesty said. "Of course you must take care of yourself in your delicate condition. Shall I have your carriage awaiting you at the front?"
Daniel and I almost said no at the same time. "Your majesty is too kind. But I will get our servant to do that for us." he nodded and waved us away.
We both bowed respectfully and slowly made our way to the entrance of the estate, Daniel being my crutch to lean on due to my so called "pregnancy."
We made ourselves as inconspicuous as possible for a smooth exit out of here.
Stephen came with our carriage and Daniel helped me in.
"You're with child, love?" he asked.
"No of course not!" I said. "We needed an excuse to get out of that place as soon as you two were done."
"She was invited to the private dining area of his majesty. He seemed to have a special eye for her." Daniel said in my defense.
Stephen huffed. "A lot of men there seemed to have an eye for you." his eyes were fixed on the road but I could tell his mind was wandering in dark places.
Was this his jealous character?
"That may be true, but I have only eyes for one person." I said with a smirk. This seemed to lighten his mood a bit.
We got to the cottage and settled in. Daniel made sure all the loot was well covered as Stephen undressed me.
"I don't mean to be envying, love." he said with a shameful smile. "I apologize."
I smiled and kissed him on his cheek in forgiveness.
When he usually undresses me it felt like I was a patient and he was a nurse. But this time it was different. Every time his finger brushed against my skin I got goosebumps. I could feel heat radiating from him and he could sense it too. I turned to look at him and got lost in his blue eyes. The dim light from the burning fireplace danced around the walls of the cabin.
He took something from his pocket and smirked. "I found this among the loot. It'll be perfect for you."
I glanced down and saw a necklace with a sapphire pendant. It was absolutely beautiful! I turned around and moved my hair out of the way for him to place it on me.
"I want us to be joined, Alexandrea." he whispered, his lips brushing my ear. I turned back to face him and put my hands on his chest. The sapphire that he stole back from the Mohawk chief rested under his undergarments.
I chuckled. "I think we've already been joined since the day we met."
Our faces were inches apart and I was entranced. I was falling for him. I was falling for this life. I felt I had more here than the life in 2019. Our faces were slowly leaning in on each other, both of us trembling. That was till Daniel burst through the door and a cold draft blew through.
"Captain, I hear dogs in the distance!" he shouted.
"Daniel that could be any hound at this hour!" Stephen snapped but then paused to strain his ears.
I strained mine was well to hear not just one or two, but a group of dogs barking in the distance. Stephen picked me up quickly, and rushed to put me in the carriage as Daniel grabbed anything of value he could carry and quickly threw them in the carriage with me.
I already knew what was happening and I helped secure everything in place.
It wasn't long till I heard horses in the distance just as we started moving. Daniel was driving the carriage as fast as the horse would let us, as Stephen and I hid inside with all our goods. He readied his pistol in case and held me close. We were going so fast that I was afraid the carriage would buckle with the weight. It started raining which completely made it worse for our getaway.
"Stephen.." I said giving him a worried look. We needed to think fast. If we didn't let this carriage go and make a run for it on foot, then we would get caught for sure face an execution.
I could see the pain he was in, having to let go of all their hard work. But he knew what had to be done in order to survive.
"Daniel!" he shouted. For a brief second Daniel didn't want to listen to him, but he knew as well what was at stake. "Christ." he muttered.
The only way for us to even have a chance of getting away was to jump out of the moving carriage and run as fast as we could.
Stephen took my hand as Daniel prepared to launch himself.
"Ready?" he shouted at both of us, as we both nodded.
Aside from the occurrence with the Mohawk tribe, this was by far the most intense and scary situation I've even been in. I clutched onto Stephen's hand as flew through the air. It was a miracle that I didn't injure my leg any further with the fall. Dog's were still barking in the distance so we knew we couldn't stay in the same spot for long.
We headed up the mountain, and I started to have a familiar feeling about the area. The dogs and now soldier noises were getting closer and we were all starting to lose hope. We hiked as fast as we could trying to get further away, but our luck was running out.
Daniel suddenly stopped and faced the direction of the soldiers.
"Daniel!!" Stephen shouted trying to pull him away.
"Captain, let me do this. This is me repaying my life for you." he shouted as he rooted himself. "You and mistress Alexandrea take care of each other."
I started to sob for both Daniel and the greater possibility we'd be joining him shortly at the hangman's noose. That's when I heard it. The familiar eerie buzzing noise. I glanced in the direction and saw the pond that changed my life.
"Go! Now!" Daniel yelled. Stephen took one look at him, nodded, his heart bursting with sadness and ran the opposite direction. I took his hand and lead him towards the pond, leaving Daniel in the distance. The barking got louder and I heard soldiers shouting, indicating Daniel was spotted.
We reached the pond and Stephen glanced around with a confused look on his face. "What is that?" he said.
A sigh of relief escaped my lips. Finally, something to conclude I wasn't going crazy. "You hear it too?!"
He looked at me confused.
I pointed at the pond. "This is where I traveled from." I said.
He looked at me intently, as we both knew what we needed to do. Holding hands, we jumped into the pond, just as dogs and soldiers we closing in on us.
