chapter 8 - you're the perfect chemical

It was exactly 10 pm and Felix was waiting outside the restaurant with anticipation for Changbin to arrive. The night was significantly warmer than the past couple of days and he didn't even need to worry about bringing a jacket, which was a nice change.

Despite the warm weather, Felix noticed Changbin was wearing his usual outfit when he arrived: a black hoodie with black skinny jeans. Felix did a small wave as he approached.

"So where are we going?" he asked, incredibly curious about where Changbin was going to bring him. Seoul was so big and there was so much to do, it could be almost anything.

"If I were to tell you, I'd be ruining the surprise," Changbin pointed out as the two began to walk down the sidewalk while Changbin led the way.

It only took about ten minutes of walking when they stopped in front of a building so tall that Felix had to tilt his head all the way back just so he could see the top of it. The massive glass door towered above them and Changbin pointed at the building to indicate that they had arrived at their destination.

"Okay, here's the deal. Follow me, try not to say much. If anyone comes up to us, just let me do the talking," Changbin explained.

This situation suddenly seemed a whole lot sketchier than it did a few seconds ago, but there was something kind of mysterious and exciting about Changbin's warning that made Felix interested. He followed the boy through the giant doors and into the dimly lit building.

There was a large marble desk in the lobby that two security guards stood behind. Felix kept close behind Changbin as they approached the desk. Instead of stopping, Changbin confidently walked past the desk as he held up an ID card that he had pulled out of his hoodie. One of the guards simply nodded as the two boys walked by and towards the elevators.

"Who's ID is that?" Felix asked with an eyebrow raised as the elevator doors shut.

Changbin pressed the button for the fifty-fifth floor. "My father's. He works in this building. The guards never look close enough at the ID to see that I'm not a fifty-year-old balding man."

After almost a minute of riding the elevator, they arrived at the top floor. The elevator doors opened to a dark hallway with only a couple of doors, with the last one having a sign that read Rooftop Access. Changbin had to swipe his father's ID at the door to get it to open.

"After you," he said as he held the door open for Felix.

They were immediately greeted by a gust of wind as they stepped out and onto the roof. The first thing Felix noticed was the absolutely incredible view. The city was alive with lights. The streets looked like tiny glowing streams between towering buildings and the cars looked like small, brightly lit ants. A haze of light surrounded the city that stretched almost as far as he could see, the sky never quite darkening to black because of the lights.

"Woah..." was all he could say as they stepped closer to the chain-link fence that surrounded the perimeter of the rooftop.

"Yeah, I had the same reaction the first time I came up here too," Changbin chuckled. "But wait, it gets better." He pulled out his phone and turned on his flashlight so they could see where they were walking.

He guided Felix over to a small garden in one of the corners of the rooftop. He kneeled down and plucked something off of one of the plants, and then stood back up and held it out to Felix.

"A raspberry," Felix smiled as Changbin dropped it into his hand. He popped it into his mouth and winced slightly at the sour flavour. "Honestly it would kinda be funny if you had poisoned this and I dropped dead."
