chapter 17 - dark clouds

F: Hyungggg

F: I miss you :(

F: Can't wait to see you

Felix sighed as he put down his phone. Changbin was supposed to be coming over tonight yet he hadn't heard from him all day, which was strange because he usually responded quickly. Felix was so bored, he had even asked bin567 if he wanted to play but the user didn't reply.

He decided the best use of his time would be to work on some homework, so he set up at the kitchen table and began to work on his chemistry homework. Sammy was also working on something at the table, letting out frustrated grunts every once in a while.

After about an hour of work, his phone began to ring. He was delighted to see Changbin's name on his screen and picked up immediately. He had to stop himself from saying anything too flirty because Sammy was in the room.

"Hey! What's up?"

"Felix," Changbin gasped, his voice sounding strained. "They found out."

"Who found out what? What's going on?" Felix asked, becoming increasingly concerned by the panic in Changbin's voice.

"My parents found out about us. I was on my phone and my mother just snatched it out of my hands. She went through my texts and saw our conversations, they know we're dating," he said, his voice close to tears.

Felix's heart was pounding in his chest as his worst nightmare started to unfold. He was furious that Changbin's mother would invade her son's privacy like that, and he couldn't help but feel guilty for all the loving texts he had sent Changbin since they started dating. He felt so stupid for not trying to be more low key for his boyfriend's safety.

"Where are you now?" Felix asked. Sammy was looking at him with a concerned expression, but he had no time to explain what was going on and began to head towards the door.

"I locked myself in the bathroom."

Felix could hear someone banging on the bathroom door in the background.

"What's your address? I'm on my way," Felix said while he struggled to slip on his jacket, holding his phone to his ear.

"Felix, I don't want you anywhere near-"

"Changbin, what's the address?" Felix demanded. If Changbin wasn't going to tell him, he was going to call the police to find him.

Letting out a sigh of defeat, Changbin stated his address. Felix made him promise to stay on the phone with him while he ran out into the cold night and began his journey to find the house. It seemed like everyone on the street was walking painfully slow that night, or maybe it was just because Felix was in such a rush. He found himself sprinting as rain began to fall down from the sky, dampening his hair and causing it to stick to his face.

He turned down a side street lined with low rise apartment houses. A couple walking their dog gave him a concerned expression when he ran past them. Slowly but surely, the numbers along the houses got closer and closer to Changbin's address. Finally, he reached the place and rushed up to the door. He hadn't even thought of what to say but knocked on the door anyway.

The door swung open and a taller man with greying hair and thick glasses stood there, staring Felix down. The smell of vodka stunk up the air surrounding the man. Felix didn't say a word and attempted to push past Changbin's father, but he gave him a light push back.

"Get out of my way," Felix said as he tried to shove him.

"So you're the boy who's been messing around with my son," Changbin's father spit, wobbling slightly from Felix's push. He balled his hand into a fist and reached it backwards, but his drunkenness caused the whole action to be slow enough for Felix to anticipate the punch and successfully dodge it.

The motion of his attempted punch was so strong that the older man stumbled forwards, letting his guard down just enough for Felix to slip by him and into the apartment. He didn't have much time and he panicked as he tried to find the bathroom. Halfway down the hall, he spotted a woman who must have been Changbin's mother banging on a door.

"Move," Felix shouted, frightening her enough that she stumbled backwards and further down the hall. Felix grasped onto the doorknob and twisted at it desperately. "Changbin, it's me, Felix. I'm here."

In a matter of seconds, the door swung open. Felix immediately noticed Changbin had a new scratch on his cheekbone. It was already beginning to bruise and was likely from a blow to the face. Felix's heart ached at the sight of it, but he knew they didn't have time to waste. He grabbed his boyfriend's hand and they rushed out of the bathroom. They nearly made it to the front door before they were blocked by Changbin's father who stared at them in disgust.

"Get out of the way," Changbin said sternly, tightening his grip on Felix's hand.

"Son, you have let me down," his father slurred, resting one hand on the door frame to steady himself. "I can't let you leave with this... this..."

"This is my boyfriend. I don't give a shit what you do to me- I can take that. But the moment you involve my boyfriend is when you've crossed the line. Now move before I make you," Changbin said.

"If you choose to leave now, that's on you. You won't be welcome back here ever again."

"I can live with that," Changbin stated confidently.

His father shook his head and crossed his arms, but surprisingly he moved out of the doorway. Changbin kept Felix to his side as they walked out the door which slammed violently behind them. Changbin was shivering from the cool weather since he was just wearing a t-shirt and jeans.

Almost immediately, Felix wrapped his arms around Changbin and held him as tightly as he could. Slowly, Changbin wrapped his arms around his boyfriend too, still shaken up by what had just happened. They stood there for almost a minute in each other's embrace.

"W-what now?" Changbin uttered as they pulled away.

Felix wasn't sure what to do now because there were so few options. He ultimately chose the one that would be difficult for him yet the safest for Changbin.

"We go to my house."

Changbin simply nodded and they began to walk back to Felix's place. Felix was trying to mentally prepare what he would say to his parents, but he couldn't think of anything he could say that could possibly sum up the situation. Before he knew it, they were standing in front of his front door. After taking a deep breath, he twisted the doorknob and pushed the door open.

Sammy and his parents were both sitting on the couch anxiously. His mom immediately stood up as she saw her son walk in the door.

"Felix, what on earth is going on? Sammy said you ran out and we've been so worried about-"

"Mom," Felix said as he grabbed onto Changbin's hand. "This is my boyfriend, Changbin. Can he stay with us?"
