chapter eighteen

chapter 18 - so far away

Felix's family looked back and forth between him and Changbin with shock in their eyes. His mom was the first to break the tension when she stood up and rushed into the kitchen, returning with a wet rag.

"Come here dear, your face is bleeding," she said as she approached Changbin.

He hesitated at first, but eventually caved in and allowed her to dab at the cut on his face. Felix held onto his hand and he winced slightly at the pain while she cleaned him up. Felix's dad and Sammy sat on the couch and watched, unsure of what to say while they processed what had just happened.

"You know, I never would have guessed meeting Felix's first boyfriend would happen like this," Felix's mom said once she finished cleaning the cut on his face. She looked like she wanted to ask what had happened, but held her words in.

"I'm sorry it had to happen this way," Changbin stated solemnly, looking down at the floor.

"There's no need to say sorry," she assured him with a faint smile. "I'm just glad to meet someone that my son cares so deeply about." Felix was eternally grateful for the kind words of the woman that raised him. "You look very tired, dear."

Changbin nodded.

"We can talk about things in the morning. Felix, would you please help your guest settle in?" she asked her son, to which he nodded.

He led Changbin to his room and gave him clothes to change into. Felix found himself shaken up by what he had witnessed at his boyfriend's house while he waited for him outside the bathroom. All he could think about was how much he wanted to comfort the boy right now, but the future was so unclear and he didn't know what to say to make him feel better.

Once Changbin emerged from the bathroom, they wandered back to Felix's room and sat down on his bed. They sat there for a while in silence, both thinking to themselves.

"Honestly, I feel pretty good right now," Changbin said, finally breaking the silence.

"How could you feel good after what just happened?" Felix said, leaning his head to rest on his boyfriend's shoulder.

"I guess I feel free now," Changbin explained. "Although being homeless is a major downside."

"You're not going to be homeless. You can stay here," Felix assured him. There was no way he was letting Changbin live out in the streets after being kicked out. He would find a way to make the living situation work, even if his room was tiny and his parents were wary about the situation.

"I'm sorry you had to see all that. I never wanted to expose you to that toxic house," Changbin said sadly.

"It's not your fault. None of this is your fault."

"I know, you're right," Changbin sighed. "I'll just need to keep telling myself that over and over again until I believe it."

Since they were both tired, the two boys settled into bed and cuddled up against one another. Words could not express how glad Felix was knowing his boyfriend was safe, and knowing so helped him begin to doze off.

"Felix?" Changbin asked softly just as Felix was about to fall asleep.

"Yeah?" he said sleepily.

Changbin paused for a moment, tightening his grip around the younger. "I love you. Like, a lot."

Felix couldn't help but smile as he buried his face in his boyfriend's neck. "I love you too, Binnie."

It was the next morning and Felix decided to stay home from school to talk with his parents about what they were going to do about Changbin. Changbin had gone to school, leaving Felix to mess around in Hellevator Online while he waited for his mom to wake up.

He noticed a message from bin567 and immediately opened it.

bin567>hey, sorry i've been been gone. a lot has been happening and haven't been able to check my messages. I'm actually checking them using my phone rn

sammygirl01>No worries, I'm just glad you're okay

bin567>how have you been lately? tell me everythingggg

sammygirl01>Good! I actually have started dating the guy I told you about (let's call him Binnie), and I'm really happy : ) I went to a con recently and had the best mochi EVER and I can't stop thinking about it. Oh and I'm finally passing calc, so things are pretty good. And Christmas is coming up!

sammygirl01>Honestly just some of that animecon mochi and maybe to go skating, I heard there's a big outdoor rink in Seoul. And I still need GTA 5

Shit. Felix had just exposed himself for lying and wasn't entirely sure what to do. He quickly shut the console off in a panic, not wanting to make things worse. Just in time, his mom wandered out into the living room in her pyjamas. Felix took a deep breath as they looked at each other, preparing to plead his case for Changbin to move in with them.
