A Day in the Life of Jace And Brooklyn
This is set before Epilogue 3
"Is Jackson alright?" I whisper as I continue to pat Abby on the back. Why aren't you burping baby? I need you to burp for me so mommy can get some sleep.
Jace closes the door behind him slowly. "He's doing better, he's asleep right now."
My stomach flips when I think of my son in pain. Jackson has an ear infection, and he's been crying nonstop about it. I wish I could just take the pain away.
"Jace," I groan as I continue to pat Abby's back. "It's already been a day and he doesn't look like he's getting any better. We should take him back to the Emergency room. Maybe they can give him some extra strength antibiotics or something."
Jace kisses my forehead, "there's no need. When I went to the doctors with him today. They said it'll take a little while before the antibiotics to start working. After tonight, he should feel better."
I slowly open the door to check on him. Jack is still sleeping in his small bed. I can see from here, his breathing is haggard. That's it! "I'm going to sleep in his room tonight."
Jace chuckles, "of course you are, fine. Did you pump some bottles for Abby tonight? You know she likes to wake up at two in the morning for a bottle."
"Shit," I mutter. "No," I forgot. "With Jackson being sick, it slipped my mind. I'll do it right after I give her her bath and put her to bed."
Jace peers closer to my face, "jeez, are you okay. You look like you haven't slept in days." I haven't, I made Jace promise to take care of Jackson while he's sick and I'll handle Abby. But unlike Jack, Abby doesn't exactly sleep through the night, and she has to be fed every three hours. Jace and I usually take turns but with Jackson sick, it's been me waking up in the middle of the night to get her and Jace doing the same for Jack.
"Wha-what? Huh? No, I'm not," I readjust Abby as I pat her back. "Why aren't you burping. Please burp for mommy so I can bath you."
A loud yawn escapes my mouth. "Brooklyn give me Abby. I'll wash her and get her to bed." No, he's done so much already.
"Bu- but you took care of Jack. I can do this. It wouldn't be fair to you."
Jace shakes his head and smiles. He takes Abby from my arms, "it's fine. I got her, you go off to bed love. Get some sleep." Sleep... that does sound nice. I'll get about four hours if he does that.
"Are you sure?"
"I'm more than sure," he assures me. Jace pats Abby's back and she suddenly burps. Why is he so good with kids! He holds her up to face him. "Besides, daddy missed his little princess," he coos. Abby's face turns up into a smile.
Jace, you are the best. I walk past him into Jackson's room, he steps in front of me. "No, in our room. I'm sleeping in Jackson's room tonight and I'll make sure to feed Abby throughout the night too. So pump those tits and go to bed."
He's going to do all of that! " No, Jace I can at least sleep with Jackson tonight and feed Abby throughout the night."
"I know that you're more than capable of that, but I'm doing it. You just had a baby a few months ago and you're tired. So just go to bed, I got it."
"But this isn't what we promised each other when we became parents. It's not 50-50."
Jace kisses my forehead, "50-50? My beautiful wife just gave birth a few months ago and is taking care of our three-month-old baby. You've done more than your share. Now go pump those amazing breast and go to bed, I'll be there in about an hour to say goodnight."
