Chapter 9: Safe and Secure

Location: Rainbow Bridge
Time: 2200 Hours

After escaping the mansion from the infected that breached all their military defenses, Mitchell is now finding a secondary base for the teens and adults to stay and evacuated from Japan. Ever since the mansion, Mitchell could not stop worrying about his girlfriend Rika. 

He knows that the airport is safe and secured but the E.M.P has taken out almost everything there, with no fewer defenses and no communications she was stuck.

"Sir?" Alex said gaining Mitchell's attention. "We've got hostiles at the bridge."

Mitchell peeked through one of the cameras of the S.A.T.O APC and true to Alex's word, there was a horde of zombies in front of them. Seeing no other option he orders his team. "Drop 'em."

"Roger," Ramirez said kicking the pedals and the APC accelerated and mowed through many zombies, some of them managed to hang in the railings of the APC, but Miguel used the mounted .50 cal and shoot them down.

 "Listen up," Mitchell said getting everyone's attention inside the APC. "Do any of your relatives or parents live nearby the other side of the bridge?"

"Me and Rei's parents live just 10 blocks away from the bridge on the far left side of town," Takashi said.

Mitchell nodded. He swiped his right hand away and a holographic screen appears in thin air. "Plugin the coordinates of your parent's house." He gestures them and nodded in return.

"Sir, I think I found a safe location for us to go and rest," Miguel said. Mitchel got up from his seat and took a seat beside Miguel.

"Show me."

"Okay." He showed a map of Takashi and Rei's houses and north of that is a red dot. "Since Takashi and Rei's parents are only living 10 blocks away, I found a mall that is in the center of town. Satellite images show that there are only a few infected around that area. I think we can still make it there in time."

"Alright, will use the mall as our resting place, once communications are back online I'll contact Kingpin, and see if we can extract the civilians out of the area," Mitchell said as the rest of Dagger Team nodded.

Ramirez keeps driving in the direction of the house where Takashi and Rei's parents are located. Ramirez came to a stop when he saw the road in front of them was full of abandoned cars and other vehicles.

"Commander." Ramirez pointed at the front for Mitchell to see the road has been blocked.

"We're on foot from here." 

Miguel pulled a lever in the left side of the APC, and the ramp opened. Miguel and Alex were the first to exit the APC, they scan for any zombies in the area only to found none. Alex gave the thumbs-up and the rest exited the APC. 

"Alright. Team diamond formation keep the civilians in the middle." Mitchell orders his team as they nodded. He took the front, Alex took the left, Ramirez took the right, and Miguel watches there rear.

They make their way across the streets of the abandoned town. As they were walking their way to the house, they see many cars scattered around the road all ditched by their owners. The street was very, very quiet not a single sound can be heard. The only noise that can be heard was the shuffling of their footsteps. Everyone at this point was now nervous except the soldiers and their guts were telling them that something will happen at any moment.

CLANG, CLANG, CLANG

Mitchell raises up his hand telling them to stop. Everyone stop and they all heard the noise more clear now. Daisuke hugged his daughter close to him as she was almost crying. Rei, Saeko, Hirano, and Takashi raised their weapons in response.
