CHAPTER 6: A Broken Heart part 1

They two young man strolled the town once more before heading back to the hotel that they're staying at. It was dead silence, Wei Wuxian knows that Lan Wangji is really quiet but he still couldn't get used to it.

"Lan Zhan!" Wei Wuxian called, trying to start a conversation to break the awkward silence. He pointed at the town's clock tower, in response Lan Wangji looked at it and formed a faint smile. It's just a clock, everyone in this town might only see it the same as the other clock but for Lan Wangji that normal clock became important the moment Wei Wuxian showed it to him.

"Let's go!" Wei Wuxian pulled Lan Wangji towards the clock, they sneaked in and climbed until the top. The wind is strong and colder than before, it's hard to hear the voices of each other because of the sound that the wind composing. Wei Wuxian run and shouted at Lan Wangji to come over, Lan Wangji was hesitant and wanted to tell him to get back to where he is. He stared at Wei Wuxian and took a step one after another.

His eyes widened, he gasped and turned to Wei Wuxian. "This is?" He asked.

"Hehe! Isn't it beautiful? You like it?" Wei Wuxian grinned. Lan Wangji nodded, his lips slowly formed a faint smile.

"Lan Zhan! After 10 years, Let's come here again!" Wei Wuxian turned around, he raised his hand and lifted his pinky finger. "Promise?"

Lan Wangji smiled and wrapped the other man's pinky finger with his, "Promise" He replied softly.

From the top of the clock tower, they can see the whole village covered in different colors. It's beautiful, they might be not the only one who had seen this and surely this is not the only place where they can see such a beautiful view but in that particular place, an unforgettable memory and promise was made.

The last day of their trip as partners, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji decided to visit some museum and gallery for arts and paintings around the village. They enjoyed the every moment as they stride in every gallery and museum, Wei Wuxian never stop talking about every paintings and Lan Wangji listen to him silently and happily throughout the day.

After returning from their field trip, Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian never got the chance to see each other again. Lan Wangji didn't attend classes since they came back and Wei Wuxian is too busy for the upcoming competition. Some find it strange and keep asking Wei Wuxian about the whereabout of Lan Wangi since there is no day that they are not together, and some laughed about it specifically girls, saying that the second master of Lan Family got annoyed and bored of Wei Wuxian.

Wei Wuxian wanted to have lunch at his usual place before he decided to join Lan Wangji on his lunch time. But when he was on his way to the rooftop, he heard female voices.

"That's what that shameless beggar get! Acting so close to second master Lan!" Wei Wuxian stopped and took a peek to the girls who're standing near the door of the rooftop.

"Beggar? Why are you calling him beggar? Isn't Wei Wuxian a son of Jiang?" Another girl said.

"Don't you know? That Wei Wuxian is just adopted! He was brought by Jiang Fengmian, there were sayings that he was picked from the streets all dirty and smelly." The girl who's talking earlier sneered and laughed.

"Seriously?" The other girls asked in harmony.

"Yes! Yes! And Jiang Family is not that big either! They're family is poor, they keep saying that they owns a restaurant but it's not that known!" The girls keep on laughing, Wei Wuxian gritted his teeth, he doesn't care if they'll insult him from outside to inside but there's no way he could bear to hear them insult his whole family! He was about to stepped out and give them some word but there's no way that these girls who're heart is tainted with black ink would stop there.

"Ahahh! I feel sorry for Young master Jin!" The girl shook her head and sighed. "How unfortunate! He have to marry the daughter of the Jiang, she's so ugly and untalented! There are so many girls around who's more suitable for him! More beautiful and rich like him." She continued.

"Well, what can he do? It's their parents decision!" Another girl sighed.

The bell rang and everyone gone back to their classroom. Wei Wuxian went to the library, trying to calm himself down. In the end, he skipped his classes until afternoon.

"My whole day was ruined because of them! If only Zewu-jun is here to cheer me up." The moment he uttered those words, Lan Xichen appeared from a distance. Wei Wuxian heart skipped a bit, "Is this some kind of sign?" He said to himself.

When he's about to call out to him, someone did before the words came out from his mouth.

"Lan Xichen!" Jiang Cheng walked towards Lan Xichen with papers on his hands. The two is not that far from Wei Wuxian but not too close for him to hear of what they're talking about if they won't raise their voice.

Wei Wuxian watches the two talking blithely, his heart tightened, it keeps throbbing, like a thousand of cold needles pierced his heart, flesh and bones. The bitter feelings in his heart worsen when Lan Xichen patted Jiang Cheng's head. He took steps forward slowly, but before he could get near enough to the two, Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng left. This is so unlike him, hesitating, not speaking up of what he feels and think... "This is so unlike me... I can just call out to them normally, but.. I didn't" Wei Wuxian said to himself. Stretching his hands up the air, he sighed and grinned.

"They are just talking! What's wrong with that!" He convinced himself.

Wei Wuxian focused himself on the upcoming competition which is two week away from now, on the other hand Lan Wangji is still absent to all of his classes. At first, everyone wondered why but soon their worries and curiosities disappeared and never bother to think and ask about him. But Wei Wuxian is still thinking of the reason why he hasn't been attending his classes these past weeks.

"Where did he go? There's no way he forgot about my competition didn't he? He promised!!!" He pouted. Wei Wuxian realized that he just have to ask the person who knows Lan Wangji well, he rushed to the Council Office to meet Lan Xichen and ask about Lan Wangji. He was so excited to talk with Lan Xichen, he's always thankful for being close to Lan Wangji and give him opportunities to get closer to the person he admire the most.

"ZEWU-JUN!!" Wei Wuxian pushed the door open without knocking and shouted. The moment the door opened and his eyes adjusted. He witnessed a situation that his heart could never bear.

"Zewu-jun? Jiang Cheng? What are you doing?"
