Rhett was the most popular guy in school, not only because he was the best quarterback our school has seen in 15 years but also because he was the future alpha of the Blue Moon pack. Me, along with the rest of the pack and high school girl population, was completely enthralled by him. His charm, good looks, and kind demeanor was something any girl could fall for...and I did. I fell for him. Hard. Like I was falling down a cliff with no bottom to it.

It was a typical love story, him and I. Me being the captain of the cheerleading team and him being one of the captains of the football team. We were the power couple, everyone wanted to be us. The only problem was, we knew our mates were out there but we wouldn't find them until we turned 20 so we just stayed together for a while.

Wolves generally find their mates when they reach the age of 20. No matter what, you can't sense them or feel them until you come of age. If your mate is older, they won't even be able to sense you if you haven't reached the age yet.

When I officially met Rhett, he was a junior and I was a sophomore. We actually hated each other at first. His best friend Garrett broke my best friend Maizy's heart so obviously the only feelings I had towards Rhett and Garrett were complete and utter hatred.

It wasn't until one night when I was at the library that something changed.

"Dinner will be ready soon Rhi, how much longer on your assignment?" My mom asked over the phone.
"I'm thinking maybe another hour, maybe less. It was supposed to be a group project but of course, I'm the only one doing it." I spoke, annoyed, through the phone, looking at the computer in front of me.
"Of course, what's new" my mother said sarcastically "please text me when your walking back, it's gonna be dark and I just get worried. I'll see you in a bit, I love you"
"I love you too mom"

I stared at the computer for another 5 minutes before I decided to keep pushing along so I could get this stupid assignment done by 7. It just annoys me sometimes how my teacher just insists on group assignments because it never works out. One person is always left doing the assignment on their own, pulling everyone else's weight. What I hated most is that one persons weight I was pulling was Rhett. He's my future alpha but that does not mean I'm not allowed to hate him. He can't even do a stupid assignment like this one and he's expected to run the entire pack?! How fantastic.

I put my headphones in and started typing away, referring back to the book a few times and maybe google as well. All of a sudden I felt a presence next to me and I ripped my earbuds out, looking to my left in complete disbelief.

"Sorry I'm late, I was talking to my coach." He pulled up the chair next to mine and logged onto the computer right beside me. His hair was damp and curly, probably from taking a shower after practice, he smelled absolutely amazing. I just wanted to bury my face in his chest and take a deep breath in.

"Didn't even think you were gonna show up, no one else did" I responded, trying not to seem fazed by how delicious he looked.

"How could I let you do the entire assignment by yourself? I'm not that much of a dick." He smiled at me which made me blush slightly, I looked away at my computer before he could notice though.

"If you log into google docs, I can share this with you and you can do your part of the assignment, I'll just finish the other parts."

He nodded his head and started typing away and before I knew it we were having an actual conversation.

"So what are you planning on doing after high school?" He asked me, still looking at his computer.
"Well, I want to go to college but being in a pack and going to college is kind of difficult. I just want to be a doctor, that's all I've ever wanted to do." I spoke, still typing things out on the power point.
"Well it's not unheard of...yanno a wolf going to college."
"Yeah but it's very rare, out of all people I doubt I'd be chosen to go to college and then med school to be the next pack doctor." I sighed
"Who knows, maybe the moon goddess has a plan for you. You just might be the one who gets picked and if not then you can find something else."
"There is nothing else" I whispered so lightly he could barely hear.

We continued to do the assignment as well as have little side conversations here and there and finally at 8:06pm we were finished.

"Thanks for helping." I smiled softly as I logged off the computer.
"No problem." He smiled back

I got up from my seat and grabbed my books, now walking toward the library doors.

"Hey, it's getting dark, let me walk you home. It's the least I can do for carrying most of the weight in our group" he spoke sarcastically
"Hah- Okay" I said and he walked out of the double doors, holding one open for me.

"So, tell me again, why do you hate me?" Rhett asked
"Well, your best friend broke my best friends heart."
"So you hate me for something my best friend did?"
"Yes. It's girl code." I laughed
He shook his head and smiled "y'all are really weird"
"Oh come on," I said "you're telling me you don't have a guy code?"
He looked at me and his face turned a little pink.
"Mhm, and you're calling us weird. I know y'all have a guy code you follow, don't act like you don't"
"Okay but hating you isn't apart of it." He said

My heart beat increased slightly at the sound of that and I know he noticed.

"I've always liked you, I just never knew how to go about it" he spoke, his hands in his pockets, looking over at me studying my facial expression.

"Oh" was all I managed to say.
"I shouldn't have said anything I'm sor-
"No, don't be sorry," I said, interrupting him "I always had a thing for you, ever since 5th grade when you punched jimmy Caldwell in the face for making fun of me"

I've always liked him. I always had to observe him for a far, thats why we never really officially met until my sophomore year. We've always known each other but not in any other way besides classmates.

A smile grew on his face and he nodded, remembering that day.
"That shit head is now one of my closest friends too, kinda funny how things turn out"

We walked the rest of the way, talking about everything and nothing. All too soon we arrived at my front porch.

"Thank you for walking me home"
"Yeah of course, I'm glad I did"

I could feel my cheeks start to blush but I pinched my arm to distract myself so he wouldn't see.

"Well, goodnight Rhett" I spoke softly.
Just as I was about to turn around to open my front door, he grabbed my face and pulled me into a kiss.

His lips fit mine perfect, I was feeling dizzy from the softness and gentleness of his lips on mine. He pulled away too soon and my eyes opened back up.

"Why'd you do that?" I asked
"Because I wanted to"

Rhett smiled and kissed my cheek

"I'm gonna take you out to dinner on Friday after the game, be ready" he said as he started walking back to the side walk.
"Okay." I spoke and turned around, opening my front door then closing it.

I leaned my back on the door and held my books in my arms. My lips were still tingling from the kiss we shared moments ago.

"What has you all smiley?" My mom asked, looking at me from the kitchen table.
"Was that Rhett I heard outside?" My older brother, Easton, questioned with a smirk on his face.
"N-no, why would I be with him?" I tried to lie but I knew I sounded stupid. I was never good at lying.
"Rhiannon, just come sit down and eat, you can tell us all about that little moment you shared with that boy later." My dad said, sounding kind of annoyed.

I nodded my head and set my books down on the counter, sitting down at the kitchen table and digging into my moms homemade lasagna.

The only thing I could think about was that kiss.
