We now have in our midst Teen Fiction writer Tyumie with her books "Glow" and "Never Say Never" out on the line to take you on an adventurous ride full of drama, trauma, karma and uh shawarma? Just kidding, I ran out of rhymes. Let's go get acquainted with this brilliant author!

Tell us a little about "Never Say Never". How did this idea come around? Was there any personal incident that triggered the concept of this novel?
Never Say Never is about a girl that was raped by her close family member and is trying to move on from that. She believes that in order to forget about what happened, she should just stop talking and thinking about it. The idea came when I befriended a group of girls at my new school. All three of them struggle with depression and one of them is a rape victim. They didn't tell me the full story but I could see how much being raped affected her and that's when I got the idea for NSN. I decided to write a story about a rape victim that suffers from depression but doesn't want to get help; their road to accepting what happened, learning to let people in and finally forgiving her family member.

A common theme in your books happen to be thorny subjects like sexual abuse, violence and heartbreak. Why do you think it's necessary to spread awareness about these issues?
Sexual abuse, violence and heartbreak are one of the main things that occur in a person's life, especially teenagers. A person could be sure that their life is over once their hearts get broken or if they get raped. It's important to show them that they can live happy and peaceful lives even after being raped. Informing them about how important it is to accept what happened and forgive the person that wronged them is important because after being raped or being heartbroken, one thing goes through their minds: suicide. They'll want to kill themselves because they can't bear the pain and trauma any longer. I know people that have attempted suicide because of either violence, heartbreak or sexual abuse, and the fact that that person could've died pained me. I just wanted to get that message across.

Being a mature content writer, there's a saying that goes like "You can never be too careful." Have you ever restricted yourself from entering too deep into dark territories or just write as your emotions and ideas take over?
I have to say it's kind of both. I know that somewhere, around the world, there could be a rape victim reading my book. I didn't want to dig deeper into what happened because I didn't want them to relive all those traumatic memories, but I wanted to describe what my main character felt. But they weren't just her emotions, they were mine too. A few things have happened in my life which caused me to feel those emotions, so I just let them take over.

That is such an earnest revelation. Now moving on to some lighter topics, what are some of the clichés you hate and make sure to avoid as a Teen Fic writer?
I can't say that there are clichés I hate but I do try to avoid writing some of them. Like the whole "bad boy falls for a nerd" situation. If a bad boy is involved then I try to make the female seem more like an independent, young woman who doesn't care about whether she's popular and just wants to get through high school without any drama. Whether the boy is there or not, what matters is what goes on in the girl's life.

Name some of your favourite Teen Fics.
There are so many of them but I'm sure about one thing, My Fake Boyfriend will always be my favourite. I also love The Blonde Cheerleader, The Cellphone Swap and The Heartbroken Heartbreaker.

According to you, what is the key to write a great book?
Making sure that your readers can relate to what is happening in the book. We, as readers, want to know and feel what the characters are feeling. We want to be able to put ourselves in their shoes, we want to cry and laugh with them. So, the author should write a book that could help readers relate to it.

If your novel "Never Say Never" had to be made in a movie, which director would you entrust this task with?
Definitely Michael Bay. I love his work and I know that he would do a great job bringing my

Name your favourite book series of all time.
Jean M Auel's Earth's Children series. It is the best book series I've ever read. I love how it shows us how people used to live long ago. It teaches us about their beliefs and the books are so vivid, you feel like you're there.

A lot of people feel ashamed to promote their stories to the fullest in real life because of the assumed bad reputation Wattpad holds. What are your views on this?
I think that is ridiculous. People should take pride in their work and promote it to their friends and family. If a person wants to believe that Wattpad is a mediocre app that just has books, then let them believe that but it doesn't mean you should be ashamed and not promote your work.
