John Wick x reader (A/n- A follow up to something originally requested by cherishfallenangel it follows the plot of the previous part, was John taking care of the reader when they just meet, so I thought, that maybe the reader could take care of John when they're in an established relationship.)
Just past midnight found Y/n still planted on the sofa at her and John's shared home in suburban New York. His dog had his head in her lap and she gently ranked her nails along the little spot behind his ears. The only light came from the turned on television, which played an old film-noir with the lowest volume setting. The main character reminded her much of her John; brooding, serious and ruggedly handsome.
Every few minutes, she'd check her phone; just a brief glance at the screen, frowning a little when she saw that there was nothing from John, who should have back from his latest job since around ten. He hadn't told her much about it, two years together and he still wasn't much of a talker. Instead, he had just offered her the basics; it was just outside the city and it shouldn't have taken more than a week to that night.
Though, throughout the day, the weather had alternated between bouts of heavy showers and periods of gloomy coldness. That coupled with the fact that John, who was habitually on time had yet to arrive, had filled her with buzzing worry. It was so unlike him to not show him when he said he would, far less without as much as a text to let her know that everything was okay- or not.
Still, despite it all, Y/n had tried to suppress her nerves with a glass of wine and a late night show; the last thing she wanted was for him to finally come home and then feel guilty because she had been worried.
It was a little after one in the morning when Y/n heard keys jingling in the lock and then, subsequently, the door being pushed open. In a haste, she discarded the nearly empty glass on the coffee table, almost jumping off the sofa, starling Dog with her sudden movements. Ending with a skid, that she saved quite gracefully, Y/n was in the center of the front hallway, just a couple feet in front of John, who was in the process of dropping his bag to the ground and dropping his keys into the designated ceramic bowl. "Hey," she breathed with a faint smile, going to pull him into a hug.
"Hey," John smiled faintly, reveling in the comfort of her embrace. The job hadn't been particularly hard, but it did call for a lot of exertion and John had even gotten caught in the rain the night before. He felt the tire and soreness all the way in his bones and all he wanted was to curl up in bed after a hot shower, with Y/n in his arms. Since they had met two years before, after he caught her on the sidewalk in front of the Continental, they had been inseparable; it had only taken a few dates for John to know that he wanted her in his life and Y/n felt the same. Two years later, they were all but married, sharing a home and their lives.
Y/n pressed her head to his chest, even on the tips off her toes she couldn't reached his neck, "I missed you, and I was worried."
John rubbed his palm up and down her back affectionately, "I know babe, and I'm sorry, with all the rain things got.....complicated."
It only took a couple words for Y/n to recognize the change in John's voice, the underlying hoarseness and muffled sound that might have accompanied a stuffy nose. With a frown, she surveyed his face; there weren't as many cuts that time, just a few here and there, but he looked significantly paler and his eyes were dull, "You got caught in the rain, didn't you?"
Trying to suppress a episode of coughs, he nodded shortly, "Yeah, but it wasn't for that long. Just a couple hours tops."
"Hours?" Y/n's eyes winded with worry, and in an instant, she was reaching up again, that time to press the back of her palm to his neck and cheek, "Baby," her frown deepened, a little 'v' forming in the center of her forehead, "You have a fever. Come on, let's get you out of these wet clothes," without giving him a minute to protest, Y/n had taken John's hand in hers, pulling him in the direction of their bedroom.
