The Japanese class erupted into chaos as the Principal announced over the intercom that there would be no school tomorrow because the wind factor would make the temperature 20 degrees below 0. The snow whirled around outside the window and joyous laughter filled the air and nobody suspected what would happen next. Not even the girl who sat alone at the back of the classroom, giving one slight wince of pain.

Kiri’s golden hair stood out as her pale complexion winced in pain as her heart hurt again, as if someone was squeezing it. Though Kiri was the top student of the exclusive elite school, she was by far the most peculiar, because she was a seer. Her predictions were always dead on. The kanji on the American classroom’s board blurred in her vision as everything went grey. When she rubbed her eyes everything went back to normal. Kiri closed her saddened silver eyes that reflected her abysmal emotional pain.

The pupil’s of Kiri’s eyes dilated and the room began to swim in her vision. The colors and lines blended with each other as her vision became more obscure. If she hadn’t known she was in class, she would have thought that she was looking at her abstract art.

She felt so hot, as if she was burning up and Kiri felt exhausted too. A voice murmured in a comforting and motherly voice, “Come home my child, come back to me.”

Kiri’s pallor was flushed a light red. Kiri loved this soothing voice, it reminded her of the fact that her human parent’s didn’t care for her or were involved with her life. Her subconscious mind screamed at her to fight the voice, but the voice came again and silenced any thought of struggle. Kiri gave in.

Kiri’s tall and slender figure slumped in the chair and then her body fell out of the chair and her head slammed into the cold, hard floor. Those once joyous voices were screaming in fright, this did not matter to Kiri, for she was gone.

Kiri looked around her, seeing only a white light. It hurt her eyes too much, so she squeezed them shut. Kiri felt celestial wings on her back. The wings were made of the power of the sun, moon, stars, and planets. Memories came unbidden to her mind.

‘I’m an angel? How can this be? I am no Christian, I am just a Wiccan’ her mind wondered in shock. Her body seemed illuminated in the light, there was no halo, but you could feel the love, sadness and calm radiate from her. She was a heavenly being, yet her heart belonged to a demon.

‘I know I wasn’t human, but this? I guess I won’t be able to go back to the human world. Am I going to go to the Astral Realm’ thought Kiri.

Kiri felt the world go dark, as she knew she was going to go to the Astral Realm. She knew she would remember, she would remember her past, her power, and how to fight and use her power. She would feel more of a whole person now that a part of her was not missing, but there would always be a piece of her heart missing.

Kiri slowly opened her eyes. The room was simple with a bed as the only furniture, but the wood paneling of the walls seemed fancy. The stained glass of the window, gave the room an ethereal feel. She brushed a few strands of gold hair out of her eyes. She heard shouting outside of the door.

“Do you think answering their challenge will solve anything, Zero,” shouted a female voice, which Kiri knew belonged to her friend Megan.

“At least it could save many lives,” Zero yelled back.

“Yes, but sacrifice your life? I wouldn’t have it,” Megan said quietly.

“I would ask Kiri, but she does not have the mental capability. Tom is a cold-hearted jerk. I did ask some others though,” replied Zero in a soft voice, but Kiri still heard. Kiri heard retreating footsteps as she got out of bed. Resolve filled her as she opened the door and came face to face with Megan.

Kiri’s eyes were so cold that Megan felt her heart freeze. Kiri brushed passed Megan, neglecting Megan’s pleading look and Kiri’s own heart. She felt her heart sicken, knowing Zero was right. Kiri exited the temple, following the scent of Zero and the stench of death.

“Tom,” screamed Megan. Tom walked over to Megan with his usual expressionless mask on his face.

“Kiri is going to help Zero with the challenge that the Cult of Eternal Life made! You are the only one who can save her,” explained Megan with urgency.

With the words “save her,” Tom dashed off to stop Kiri. Even after the break-up with Kiri, he acted like a cold-hearted jerk to hide his love for Kiri. He stopped short of where Kiri was, staring at the determined expression on her face while wielding her sword. Tom jumped right into the struggle, fighting back to back with Kiri and used a whip. Others joined into the battle besides Zero, Tom, and Kiri.

Kiri summoned another dagger and slammed it into another human and cleared the head off another. Though Kiri hated causing this manslaughter, these people from the Cult of Eternal Life deserved it, for all the times they had committed homicide against her people. Blood drenched the ground and bodies lay all over the place. The stench of death filled the air and he sounds of dead bodies hitting the ground and the clang of weapons filled the air. Sweat poured from the fighters’ body, mixed with human blood and sometimes their blood.

A human punctured Kiri’s stomach with a dagger as the last human fell. Tom turned to Kiri, to say something to, but stopped when he saw Kiri flinch in pain, as she fell to her knees, lungs struggling for oxygen. Tom was at her side in a flash and held her in his arms; black hair was plastered to his head and cold crimson eyes filled with emotion. Neither cared that Kiri’s blood was staining their clothes and mixing with the blood on the filed underneath their feet.

“Don’t die on me Kiri,” he whispered, misery was written all over his face and regret in his thoughts.

“Do not be so sad love,” she said and Tom smiled, despite how sad everything was turning out to be.

“I love you Kiri, my divine counterpart,” he said feeling like dirt for the way he treated his true love.

“I see that you know now. Why does kismet want us a part,” Kiri said closing her eyes for a moment.

“It might not be time, but it is a time for this,” said Tom kissing her. Kiri felt strange as she shared her first kiss with her one true love, the one she was meant to be with. She didn’t want to die, so she willed herself to live. Her body reacted to her love, her will to live, and her ecstatic feelings. She closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around her lover’s neck as the kiss became deeper and she felt oh so better than when she was dying a few moments ago.

The God of Death, he would just have to wait longer for her. She had a future to live. She had a bright future waiting for her, one in which her divine counterpart would be part of. Who cared about God anyways?
