Mike couldn't believe it. Eleven was gone. The gargoyle taking her from him when he had just managed to reach out to her. The other boys had gone their own way about it and are now slobbering over the new girl, Max. Mike didn't hate her but he didn't want another girl in the party as the only girl that was allowed was Eleven and he didn't Max to take her spot.
It's been a week since Eleven disappeared and Mike took a turn for the worst, everyone started to worry about him. Mike no longer ate anything apart from eggos, even then he only ate one half then chuck the rest away. The only time he came out of his room was to visit Eleven's spot in the basement where he would use the satellite phone to talk to her, but he'd get no reply. Also, Mike stopped sleeping and he always looked like a disaster, but no matter how many times people told him he refused to sleep.
Soon his mother had enough. She hated that she had to do this but she knew it was the only way. In his water she mixed in a single sleeping pill, knowing how easily pills affected him. Then she set the table and called everyone down, she started to get jitters and prayed this would work. Ted and Nancy were there in a split second but Mike came down several minutes later, slouching and tired as always.
Karen watched Mike intensely as he drank the water then tried to make conversation with Nancy so he wouldn't notice her stare. After Mike had a couple bites of his eggo his vision went blurry. "I don't feel..." then he passed out, the pills taking affect.
Nancy instantly went to Mike. "Mike!" She shouted and started to shaking him frantically.
Karen came to Nancy's side, "It's probably because he hasn't been sleeping, he's exhausted the poor baby. I'm going to take him to bed." She said, calming Nancy down. Nancy let her mother take care of it and cleared the table.
Mike woke up. But it wasn't in his room or the kitchen, it was a pitch black room. He turned around and saw something that made him want to cry. Eleven. He ran to her but every time he thought he was close she disappeared from his grasp and this carried on for a while until he came to face something he knew all too well. The Gargoyle. Mike wanted to take Eleven and run away from the demon but he couldn't, because the Gargoyle had Eleven wrapped in one of his tentacles.
Eleven was screaming out for him and this fueled Mike's fire, he wouldn't let the Gargoyle take Eleven from him again. He grabbed the nearest weapon and ran towards the creature. "ELEVEN!" He yelled as he ran, ignoring the roar rippling from the creatures throat. As soon as he caught up with the creature he chopped off his arm to release Eleven then grabbed her and ran the other way.
The Gargoyle soon caught up and it had grew another arm to replace the one Mike had cut off. Mike was panicking and tried to run faster, although he knew it was never going to be good enough, neither did Eleven. Then he saw a hiding spot that the Gargoyle wouldn't be able to fit in so as fast as he could he ran over to it and shoved Eleven inside. "Stay there." Eleven nodded and curled into herself. Mike kept running to distract the demon and make sure it was nowhere near Eleven.
Mike started to get tired but he had to keep going. He saw a huge tree and made a run for it as he thought he could use it as a safe point of some sort. Unfortunately he tripped over a fallen branch and fell to the floor then he new his end was near. The Gargoyle growled from above him and Mike brace himself for the pain, squeezing his eyes shut and praying that some sort of miracle would happen.
There was no miracle. The Gargoyle grabbed his leg and started dragging him along. Mike tried to get a grip on anything but the creature was too strong and Mike knew it was helpless so he stopped trying. Instantly he started to say goodbye to everyone in his mind and especially Eleven, thinking about the Snowball they'd never be able to go to together or help her live a normal life like he promised.
They came to a stop and Mike felt the creature release him. He was confused and turned around, there in the middle of the path was Eleven. Mike started to worry and ran to her side. "Eleven, don't. I can't lose you again. Please," and a tear started to fall down his cheek.
Eleven smiled at him. "I'm sorry Mike. Maybe next time you can save me." Then used full force on the Gargoyle. It screeched as Eleven kept going and Mike was crying, trying to stop Eleven from disappearing again.
Then the flash came again so he shielded his eyes. But when it was gone so was Eleven and the Gargoyle. He fell to the floor and stared into the distance, he lost her again, it was his mission to find her and help her but he failed. It all hit him like a truck and he was sobbing and hitting the ground over and over again. "Eleven," he muttered every so often.
Then he screamed into the nothingness and it echoed everywhere. He felt something shake him so he thrashed around and tried to get away from it. "No! Leave me alone! Leave me alone!" He repeated but it never stopped. Everything started to go black but Mike was still fighting, this was for Eleven.
He woke up. He was in his room and his mother was holding him with tears in his eyes. Behind her was Nancy, Johnathan, Steve and his friends all stunned into silence. Mike just started sobbing and hugged his mother, who allowed it and held him close into him. "It was her. It was Eleven. I failed her, again." He sobbed out.
Karen shook her head, "It wasn't your fault baby, I promise." But Mike didn't believe it.
After he finished crying his mother left to go get some food for him. Mike went to Steve and, surprisingly, hugged him, "What do I do? I can't help her."
Steve rubbed Mike's back. "Maybe it's not so much a mission for you to save her, it's to stay with her. So when in the dream with her, hide with her or stay be her side as you battle the demons." He said.
Mike nodded. "Thank you Steve."
"No problem shithead."
Mike laughed as he came out the hug and so did the others, Nancy came forwards and gave him a photo of him and Eleven together in the park. Mike smiled at it, Eleven was in her wig and dress whilst he was wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt, it was the one time they weren't worrying about anything trying to hurt them or they weren't trying to save Will and the world.
Mike smiled and went to play with his friends, including Steve, to the basement. But although he seemed happy Mike knew that these nightmares were far from over.
