Coming up the mentality of a black man is as vague as a polite smile. You know that smile the white man give when you pass him in public. That smile that says " hi leave me alone " a complete contradiction. A contradiction where one side doesn't out weight the other in any aspect. To the public your a liar, a thief, a murder. To your peers your a liar, a thief, a murder. And you have to change your own mentality to better progress your future. A future in which you have no say so in what happens because society has destined you to a jail cell or being buried six feet under. Mentally is key. Key to great things, key to bad things, the key to success and the key to failure. With very little say so or time to think you must open a door and hope that there's something on the other side. Once your door is opened it can take decades to feel your way through the dark to find a better one. On your way there your chased by police officers who call you " son " almost as if to call you " boy " they tap the roof of you car and say " sit tight ". People you've grown up around make you wonder if there future involves you and if so in what way. Your chased by rabid pit bulls wearing black air forces and fitted caps. Barking at you as if they're testing your " gangster " biting back could cost you your life but even worse your future, and not responding makes you a bitch. Once you find that door through all the obstacles you've " overcame " and I say that in such a way because you don't forget they just becomes skeletons in the closet, your at risk of dropping the key and starting all over. Trying to become a man ... a BLACK man can break you mentally, physically, and emotionally.
