Four Years Later

Grace wiped the juice that spilled on the table, while the kettle whistled, the two new born twins cried, and August's heat poured in through the windows, the puppy barked and the phone was ringing. Tears poured down her own face as she picked Arden off the floor and turned the stove off, removing the kettle while the four year old tangled her sticky fingers in the 23 year old's hair. Grace smiled at her and let the puppy, Comet, outside. She then turned the kitchen's fan on and went into the living room where the two new born twins layed in a crib. Grace set Arden down, and she crawled over to her toys, and Grace picked up the larger boy, Nathan, and hugged him tightly, patting his bum and dancing along to the music she hummed, Arden even danced in little twirls as Grace began singing Sam Smith out loud. The two twins quieted, and Grace smiled, going to let the puppy back inside, and Comet jumped on to her, muddy paw prints being left on her apron, but Grace just smiled, she was positive the small amount of makeup she wore was dried on to her cheeks, but she was simply happy to be alive.

Michael and Grace had a fight over a month ago, letting the idea of him never leaving her vanish. Grace looked over to the jar that had her wedding rings in it, and took a sip of the tea she made. Whereas Michael was sitting on the curb of a gas station, a cigarette in hand and his hair falling out faster and faster by the minute. He scratched his head, his black jeans were wet from sitting in the rain, and all the money he had, he spent on Vodka, cigarettes, and affection by women at a strip club. He toyed with the silver band on his finger, as a car's head light's blinded him. The door swung open, and a small body jumped out and shut the door. He stood up, and threw his cigarette to the ground, and walked to the small body, wrapping his arms around the person he'd missed this whole time.

Rain began falling on to the couple, as Grace looked into the car and told Arden to 'hit it' and she turned a dial on the radio and Sam Smith's 'I'm Not The Only One' began playing.  They danced in circles as the rain heaved on, Arden May fell asleep in the car and the twins were with their aunt. The couple both thought it felt nice to be in each other's arms, and they wanted the feeling to last. During the last note, Michael reached down and stroked Grace's cheek and began kissing her.

"Ew, gross, mommy and daddy."

They looked over to Arden, whom they thought was asleep, through the car's open window and laughed. Then in their mind, they thought almost the same thing. Grace thought 'I'm still happy to be alive' and well, Michael thought,

"I'm lucky to have you."
