Hope's POV

Moving is always so hard, you have to go to a different school, in a different town where you know no one, but I never even considered how hard it would be to move countries; until now that is.

1 week earlier

I am currently standing in the middle of my room, sticky and annoyed, trying to decide if I should retaliate or just threaten the asshole who caused this mess. I had just come back from probably one of the worst days at school.

(I was just minding my own business, talking to Emily (my best friend), when this kid 'accidentally' spilt fizzy all over my uniform and had the nerve to say it was my fault for 'getting in his way'. Asshole. I was just about to tell him off when the principal came and told us to meet him in his office. After a few minutes of back and forth arguing, I apparently stole his drink and was about to drink it, when he knocked it out of my hands resulting in me getting covered with it. Excuuuse me!?! I didn't even get one word in before he punished me to a week of detention.)

After thinking it through, I decided to take a shower and make up my mind then, showers are the best place to think. Grabbing my shorts and singlet, I quickly make my way into the bathroom, before my brothers get there.

As I let the hot, steamy water fall ever so gently over my tanned skin, I began to think about my situation.

Why would he blame it on me!?!

I didn't even do anything to him, I don't even know who he is!

I definitely have to get him back, but I also don't wanna get in trouble

Knock knock "Hope, hurry up" Jack (my 18 year old brother) yells

"Yeah yeah, hold on"

Already missing the warmth of the water, I step out of the shower and dry myself off, hoping I got all of the sticky substance out of my hair. After sliding my pjs on, I make my way towards the door and open it to see Jack, leaning against the wall, opposite to the bathroom.

"Finally, took you long enough" he exclaims

"Shut up, you take twice as long" I retort, imitating his scowl

"Whatever, dad wants to see us" he says after a while, before walking off into the lounge room

As I approach the room, I notice my two youngest siblings (Amelia (13 years old) and Daniel (9 years old)) sitting next to each other, on the couch facing Jack, with my dad sitting adjacent to both couches awaiting upon my arrival. I take a seat next to Jack, patiently wait for dad to start.

"Ok, now that your all here" he pauses and turns to look at me, "I can tell u that we are moving to America"

"WHAT!?!" Everyone yells, simultaneously

"Calm down" he says, moving his hands up and down, as if it will somehow calm our moods, "I know it's very different to Australia, but it's a good change"

"A GOOD CHANGE!?! What about my friends and mum? We can't just leave mum here" Jack fights back

Mum left dad when I was 10, I'm now 16. She remarried to a guy she met at a supermarket. They've been married for 5 years, with 2 children. Madi and May, their twins, 3 years old, and are the sweetest children ever.

"Your mother has moved on and married, and now she has another family, I've already discussed this with her, and she's upset, but can understand where I'm coming from"

"Why are we moving at all, let alone another country?" I say, trying not to sound too angry

"I've been transferred, because theres not enough workers there, plus it's better pay" he looks at us with hopeful eyes "it's a lot, I know, but you have to understand that it's better this way. We will call your mum everyday, and she has agreed to fly out here every 3 months to see u guys"

My dad has worked as a financial advisor for as long as I can remember. He usually goes on business 3-5 times a year, leaving us plenty of money and in the responsibility of Jack, but since we are going to America, I'm not sure Jack can take care of us anymore, cause he'll be in college.

Amelia sighs and everyone turns to look at her, "I mean if there's nothing we can do, we might as well just except it"

"Yeah I guess, but I'm still not happy about it" Jack agrees

"Same" Daniel says

They all turn to look at me, "America better have Tim tams" I say while sighing

"Thank you all for understanding, and Hope, I'm pretty sure they don't"

"Ugh" I groan

We all laugh, when Daniel interrupts us, "hey dad, when are we moving"

Dad pauses "a week"

"WHAT!?!" We scream together, for the second time tonight

Dad quickly exits the room yelling "start packing, boxes are in the garage, 3 per person, no more"

We all make eye contact before scrambling into the garage to get the biggest boxes.

Present day

So now, all 5 of us are standing in the airport, waiting for our flight to be called. Apparently dad already bought a house before telling us we were moving, so it was final. The boxes and our car was shipped 3 days ago, and we had to get rid of half of out stuff, and all the furniture. I was pretty upset we had to donate so much, it was like getting rid of my childhood. We sold the house we were living in, to a family friend who promised to take good care of the house. I said good bye to all my friends yesterday, to say I looked a mess, would be an understatement. Mum dropped us off at the airport this morning before saying our goodbyes, and promising she was coming to visit us in 3 months.

"Flight BA2490 to Colorado, America" the speakers announce

"Well, that's our flight" dad says, as he stands

"How long is it going to be" Jack asks

"Roughly 25 hours"

"WHAT!?!" We all announce, yet again
