once again, the cat roamed the parisian streets, the setting cold and dark and somehow lonely. this time was different from the last. he wasn't just out and about because he wanted to — right now, he really just wanted to be by his lady's side.

but he was doing this for her.

this time, he wasn't going to get hit by some random root.

no, this time he would find the source of his dilemma and slowly solve it from there.

that source would be master fu.

at this moment, he seemed like the most logical explanation for everything.

yes.

master fu ; the guardian of the miraculous box, the one who gave them the powers in the first place. surely he'd be the one to know all the solutions connecting to this problem in the first place, right?

leaving his thoughts at that, adrien continued prowling the dark roads, his only focus remaining on marinette's happiness and finding the old man.

however finding the guardian proved to be difficult. very difficult, in fact, the sudden rainfall not being helpful whatsoever, either.

turns out it's pretty hard to find someone when you don't even know what they look like, adrien realized.

and so an hour passed, which turned into two.

then three.

and then four, and so on until dawn had arrived.

the black cat sighed, walking into an alley with his head looking down at the ground, his paws squelched with the wetness of the rain.

chat noir walked further into the darkness, finding shelter in a beige cardboard box that lay on its side. he crawled into the uncomfortable box, assuming it would be better than getting drizzled upon further more. his once-shiny black coat had already been mangled and wet now, so what would a little more rain do?

everything, he thought.

and so he lay, curling into a soaking ball of fur, a feeling of déjà vu suddenly overcoming his senses.

marinette had found him laying lonely and lost in that one cardboard box that was now on the other side of town.

but this time, adrien thought, no one would come and help him.

so he lay there and slept, exhausted from the night's wasted energy.

he hadn't found him, afterall.

he hadn't found the man that would save both him and marinette from the suffering they've both endures.

his lady.

they'd be stuck like this forever.

he'd be stuck like this forever.

adrien sighed.

hopefully she can find happiness without me, he thought, although he already knew the answer to that.

he remembered all the times he'd gotten friendzoned by ladybug — by marinette.

he remembered all the times his princess had mentioned her crush to him, which only now had he realized how heartbroken he had felt back then.

so chat was left alone with his thoughts, his mind racing with possible future outcomes (most of which were depressing — scratch that, they were all unbearably sad) and not realizing it, had slowly dozed off inside that cold, dark alleyway in the hard cardboard box.
