Up until now, most of the information that you have been putting together for your world has been things that you could just think up, but now you should really write this section down somewhere. Things can get mixed up if you do not have a solid copy of this.
First thing's the races that inhabit your world. How many will there be? Once you have the number figured out, what will they be? You can do humans and elves, ogers, giants, etc. Or you could create your own creation. You will need to make a description of how they look as well as what their society is like. Each should be unique. And when you use races that we are all familiar with, make sure to give them something that keeps them apart from other stories. You do not want anything to feel like it is a copy of other stories.
Races are the backbone of every story. And having a variety of them can occasionally create friction between some of them. You should also consider which races like, dislike, and tolerate each other. You should also decide why they either like, dislike or tolerate each other (though history will be the next topic we talk about).
Now that you have a map, animals, nature, and the races thought up, it is now time for your characters. Who your characters are is important, but there is one thing that you should really be thinking of when you create your characters, their race. Races are important. How your character acts should reflect how he was raised, to some extent. You should not have a poor person who acts like he is rich. It would just be unrealistic.
There is an exemption to this rule. That is, if there is something in their past that made them that way. So if your character was once rich, then it is more believable that he would still act rich, though he is poor. So when thinking about your characters, you should keep their backstory in mind. And your character should have some kind of back story, even just a simple one, “he was a farm boy.” Most farm boys (I’m sure not all, but all the ones that I have met) are hardworking. Therefore, if your character was a farm boy, it would make sense that he would be hardworking, or even hard headed. Just keep in mind that your past shapes you.
