Species Continued

Once your species are all planned out, you will need to decide on a few things about them. One of the main things that will need to be worked out is how the species interact with each other. Are their species at war, natural enemies? Or are they civil and even friends? That is up to you. But not every race likes another. There are many reasons why this can be. And you should also think of why they are the way they are. It might just be easier to just say ‘that is just how it has always been’. But in truth, that is a bit overused and adds nothing to the story or the characters. This is where you can get creative and use as much detail as you see fit.

It would be good to also decide on the cultures of the races. Are they rich or poor? Nomads? What is the structure of their government? The more you flesh out with these things, the less you will have to think about later. If you think about it this way, when you go to write about a city that was founded by one of these races, you will already have a general idea as to how the whole thing is set up. It can make things slightly easier for you in the long run. Just knowing what a race looks like is not exactly enough. The more you decide now, the less you will have to think about when the writing starts.
