She stood in front of window which separated herself from the outside world, lost in thought as she gazed at the world before her. The woman was waiting for something, and simply buying time. She pressed the bare palm of her hand against it for a moment and watched the sun begin to inch its way up over the horizon. It was the first sign of morning overtaking the day.
When she took the palm of her hand away from the window, fingerprints and traces of a glossy ice could be seen. The shimmering ice, however, faded away in seconds. If Elsa didn’t control the ice to stay longer it wouldn’t, especially not during this time of the year. Summer had just begun, after all. And this summer was going to be a special one.
Gently running her fingers through her blonde hair, Elsa turned away from the window--deciding her wait was over--after a moment and exited the room, making her way for Anna’s room. Just as the queen had been hoping, her younger sister was gone. Now, this normally wasn’t like Anna. This peppy young princess wasn’t so peppy in the mornings, that was for certain. Elsa was usually lucky if she saw the girl outside of her room by lunch. But this morning, however, was the morning of a special day: Anna’s wedding day.
Once she was certain the coast was clear, Elsa made her way over to a desk in Anna’s room and opened a drawer. She took out a small, bound leather journal Anna frequently wrote in and took it out, flipping it open to leaf through the pages. Ignoring Anna’s messy handwriting, Elsa skimmed along, looking for one thing in particular. She was so focused, however, she didn't realize that footsteps could be heard coming down the hall toward Anna’s room, followed by a gasp.
“Elsa, what are you doing in my room? And what are you looking at?” chirped Princess Anna, who had returned to her room for reasons unknown to Elsa.
Elsa flinched and dropped the journal, eyes widened and surprised like that of a child with their hand caught in a cookie jar. “Oh, I was just, um…” While fiddling with her blonde braid nervously, Elsa stepped forward, hiding the journal in the long folds of her dress.
“I was just looking for you!” the clever queen quickly exclaimed, composing her expression. “I thought you’d be in bed at this hour, because usually, sis, you are.” She shot Anna a teasing smile and folded her arms.
Anna chuckled and made her way over to Elsa. “What makes you think I’d be in bed on a day like this? Elsa, I’m getting married!” she squeaked happily, grabbing Elsa’s hands without permission. She tugged her older sister close and danced around, giggling and swinging Elsa’s arms like a carefree child.
Elsa was slightly stiff, unsure how to react to such joyous actions, but she still smiled, happy for her sister. “Oh, I know that. That’s why I came to get you up. Oh, Anna, if only Mom and Dad could see you, they’d be so proud. You’re going to be the most beautiful bride in all of Arendelle.”
“Yes, I know I’m going to be beautiful! I’m so excited! But you know, I wouldn’t get ahead of yourself saying that I’m going to be the most beautiful bride in all of Arendelle, you know,” she replied to Elsa, releasing her hands and giving her a wink.
Elsa frowned. “Just what are you implying?”
“I’m implying… that you’ll be a beautiful bride someday too, duh!”
The snow queen’s cheeks flushed redder than normal and she rubbed her arms uncomfortably. “Oh, let’s not go there. Today is all about you. Let’s just focus on that.” Suddenly compelled to leave the room, (and forgetting her task of checking Anna’s journal from before) Elsa turned to walk away.
