The first of four bells ring as I finish packing my bag for the first five classes in the day. "Hey" I hear someone speak from next to me. I turn and see Jacob opening his locker. "Hey" I reply. "What do we start with today?" He asks as he looks quizzically at his schedule. I laugh at his facial expressions and show him the day. "We are on day 2. We start with period G." I state simply. He looks at me with confusion written all over his face. I laugh once again and state simply "Theology of the Body." He smiles and thanks me for the clarification. "Sure no problem. So why are you so late?" I question. "I'm not late. I'm on time. There's a difference." He states matter-of-factly. The second bell rings signaling us to go to homeroom. "You have the worst excuses ever, just to let you know." I say teasingly as we walk up the stairs and into homeroom.
We sit in our regular seating, with Michael in front of me. After announcements, Michael turns around to check on me. "How are you feeling?" He asks. I could see and hear the worry in his voice. "I'm fine." I say quickly with a soft reassuring smile. Michael gives me the 'I don't believe a word you are saying' face and continues to stare at me. "I just had a bad night, I'm good trust me." I say, contesting his look. The bell rings and everyone leaves except Jacob and I. "See yall later" I hear Michael yell from the door. I shake my head at his immaturity and take out my books.
All of a sudden I hear noise coming from behind me. I turn around and find Jacob singing to himself. "I didn't know you could sing." I write in a note. I watch as he blushes slightly and laughs to himself. "I can't " he writes back. I smile at his note and write "You are a horrible liar." I pass the note back to him. He smiles at this note and writes "At least you know you can trust me. ;)" This makes me smile from ear to ear. "Are you flirting with me Jacob Vernon Junior?" I give the note back, anticipating another horrible lie. "Yeah I am. Glad you caught on so quickly." He writes as he winks at me and passes the note back. I read his answer and begin to blush when Mrs. Mar walks up to my desk. "Excuse me Ms. Lane." I hear her speak and look up in fear. "Is that a note that I see being passed in my class?" I look down at the scrap of evidence in my hand. I quickly close my hand with the note inside and open my books to the lesson. " That's what I thought." I hear her speak as she walks away from my desk. I let out a sigh of relief and turn to look at Jacob. At the moment, he is laughing so hard tears are forming in his eyes. All I can do is smile. This boy is really going to be the death of me. The bell rings signaling the end of the period. "Mrs. Lane and Mr. Vernon" we hear Mrs. Mar call. We walk over to her anticipating her yells of anger. "Keep the confession of love out of my class please." She gives us a knowing look as we stare at her in amazement. "Blushing doesn't happen for nothing you know." She says as she sends us to our next class.
Jacob and I walk up the stairs to our next class, laughing at what just happened. "She's good." I hear him state as we reach our needed floor. "She is." I state simply. "She only made one mistake." He whispers in my ear as we take our seats. "What's that?" I whisper back. "It's not love. Yet..." I look at him shocked and whisper to myself "Yet?." I look up as the teacher begins to speak and think to myself once again. "This boy will be the death of me."
