With that we continue to walk through the park.
***************************
We have been walking for twenty minutes now. We walk up the hill to a huge staircase that leads up to the famous Fort Greene Monument.
"Dirt path or stairs" he asks, pointing to each. I look between the two and then at my shoes. "Well I guess my flats will survive." I start up the dirt path. He grabs my hand and pulls me down.
"Why did you do that?" I practically scream. I put my hand on my heart and I feel it pump through my chest. Jacob laughs as if this is funny. "I'm sorry." He says through his laughter. I stand there looking at him with pure annoyance spreading through me. "I didn't mean to scare you. I was just trying to tell you something." He states before another fit of laughter errupts from him. I roll my eyes and begin up the dirt path once again. "Hey wait up!" I hear Jacob scream behind me. I continue walking up the hill, listening to his struggling footsteps behind me. "You are really out of shape." I state simply as I hustle up the last part of the hill. "I know that and these shoes aren't helping." He screams as his foot slips. At that moment, Jacobs face freezes in sheer shock as he slides back down the hill. I run back down to help him up from the pile of leaves he just fell into. "Are you okay?"
Jacob stands up and starts dusting off his clothing. "Yeah I think so. Just a couple of cuts on my hands but they aren't that horrible."
I look up and see a leaf dangling in his hair. Part of me is still slightly worried while the other part of me is dying to laugh. Unfortunately, the laughing part wins. I burst out in a fit of laughter causing Jacob to look at me like I'm a maniac. "I'm sorry." I breathe as I try to stop laughing. "You're horrible" he says through his own little chuckle. "How about we take the stairs from this point on?" He suggests as we step off the dirt path onto the stone staircase. "I think that is a good idea." I say as I finally gain control of my laughter. We walk up the remainder of the stairs and are met with about twenty children running around. Jacob grabs my hand once again and walks me over to a bench under a beautiful cherry tree."Well the beginning of our adventure was kinda bumpy but we made it through" he states as he once again tries to get the dirt off of his hands and clothing. I laugh at the thought of him falling and then look out at the children.
"I come here a lot and I don't think I've ever seen this many children up here." I state as I see a couple of the kids playing with a soccer ball. Jacob smiles and looks up at them. "Yeah, must be a group thing going on. Or maybe because it's so nice out." His focus goes back to the splotches of dirt on his clothing. I smile, knowing that the dirt is not going to come off no matter how much he wipes it. I reach in my bag and take out some baby wipes. I throw the pack at him and laugh at his facial expression.
"So you just carry a pack of baby wipes in your bag?" He inquires as he takes two out the pack.
"Yeah. They come in handy. You should try it." I smile and continue to watch the children playing. It seemed as if they were getting closer and closer to us with the ball.
"Hey, you want to go sit near the statue?" I ask as I keep an eye on the ball.
"Nah. I'm okay unless you want to go? I mean, is there a reason?" He stutters over his words, apparently nervous about my question.
"No, it's just... I don't want to get in the middle of their little game." I nod towards the children kicking the ball around. Jacob smiles and shrugs his shoulders.
"They aren't going to bother us. Trus-" Before he could get the rest of his sentence out, the ball goes flying and hits him in the middle of his head. Once again, laughter gets the best of me. "Ouch. That actually hurt." I hear Jacob say as he rubs his forehead. I laugh even harder and go retrieve the ball from behind our bench. "I told you we should have moved." I give the ball to the children and they run off to their parents. The parents send the children over once again to apologize before they all leave."Are you okay?" I ask once my laughter dies down.
"Yeah. I think so." Jacob runs his hand along his hairline and flinches.
"I don't think so. Let me see."I move his hand away and see a small cut beginning to bleed. "Aw you have a boo boo." I smile as Jacob dramatically rolls his eyes. "Come. We have to wash it out." I grab my bag and his hand. We walk over to the water fountain by a secluded bench area. I wet a piece of tissue as Jacob sits down on the bench.
"Here let me clean this." I dab the cut and smile at Jacob's flinching.
"Stop moving. It's not that horrible." He looks at me and flinches once again on purpose. I playfully slap his arm and start digging through my bag.
"What are you looking for?" He questions. I pull out my first aid kit and take out some neosporin.
"Why do you carry all of this stuff?"
I sigh and think of the original reason I carry it. Jacob feels the change in the atmosphere between us and touches my hand. "You don't have to tell me."
I look down and offer a small smile. I begin to think of our trip to the diner earlier. He had been so honest with me. Deep down I know I should be the same way. I take a deep breath and begin to tell him one of my deepest secrets. "It's okay. Um. I actually carry all of this stuff because I... um..." I look down and close my eyes.
"It's okay. You don't have to tell me." He squeezes my hand and offers a comforting smile. I smile back before I finish what I was previously doing. I put the cream on his cut and place a small bandage on it. Once I finish, I clean up and put the kit back in my bag. I sit down next to Jacob and lay my head on his shoulder. He grabs my hand and rests it on his knee. I close my eyes and allow my body to relax against his.
"I use to cut." I whisper to him.
He looks confused before he fully understands what I meant. "Why?" He whispers back.
"I was going through a lot. It was my way of staying in control while everything around me was chaotic." I lean further into him and allow him to wrap his arm around me.
"You don't have to do that anymore. Not with me." He pulls me closer to him, holding me tighter than he ever has before. I slip into his security and smile at how relaxed I feel in his arms. Suddenly an overwhelming fear encapulates me. I remember my promise to myself in the beginning of the year. I pull away from him and start to gather my things. "I have to go." I say quietly before I rush off.
"Alazne! Wait!" Jacob rushes after me but I start to walk faster. He cathches up to me and grabs my arm. "What happened? Did I do something wrong?" He looks at me with worry written all over his face. I stare back and try to find a good reason for leaving. "I just. um. I have to go." I feel myself breaking as I turn and run out of the park, leaving Jacob standing at the top of the stairs.
************************************
I walk home and think about everything that has happened. I mentally curse myself for running away from him. He is such a nice person. He is caring, passionate, protective, loving, kind, and amazingly good looking. I shouldn't have left him there like that. I think about how awkward it is going to be when I see him again. What will I say? How will he act? Will we still be friends? I shake the overwhelming thought of him out of my head as I walk into my building. I say hello to the security guard and make my way to my apartment. Once inside, I drop everything and start a hot shower. I put my phone on the charger and turn Pandora on my ipod. As I scroll through all my stations, I finally find the one I want. Jessie J's Abracadabra starts to play as I place my ipod on the bathroom speaker set. I take off my clothing and step into the hot shower, hoping it would help me forget everything that has happened. I let the water wash over me and sing along to Bang Bang. Suddenly, I hear a noise coming from my front door. I peek out the shower curtain, but I don't see anything. I quickly wash and get out the shower. As I'm drying off, I hear footsteps. I turn the music down and crack my bathroom door. I look out and see an empty hallway. I shake the feeling off and continue drying off. Before I know what is happening, someone busts open my bathroom door and knocks me into the tub, making me hit my head against the hard tile. As I try to gain control of my spinning head, I see my asshole brother smiling down at me with a look of pure lust. Before I can do anything, he grabs me out of the tub and into the bedroom. He throws me on the bed, causing a throbbing headache to expand throughout my whole head. I slowly black out with the image of my brother climbing on top of me burning in my mind.*@*$**$$*$*$*@*@*@*@*@**$*$*@*@*
