I'm currently sat on my rocking chair, knitting a scarf for Colton when I get a text on my mobile.

Colton: Momma, I got something to tell you x

Oh, Lord, he better not have gotten that Owens girl pregnant, she's a horrid girl, my boy was besotted with her and she cheated on him, something he learnt when he found her with another man. Yet he learned that she'd been cheating on him practically through the whole relationship. As soon as he told me I asked saint to take him to the sexual health clinic, if that girl had been giving it up to anyone, god knows what she was riddled with. Thankfully, Colton came back with the all clear, I type out a reply to my boy...

Me: Boy, if you gon' got that Owens girl pregnant, I 'ma kill you x

I watch as the bubbles appear on the screen...

Colton: Momma, I ain't stupid x

Well, let's not go there, because—Hello, Sonia...

Me: Well, is it good news? X

The bubbles appear again...

Colton: I'll tell you later, I gotta get to work x

Jesus, why can't he just tell me now? I sigh heavily to myself, I suppose I can wait...

Momma: Okay, well, we're having meatloaf for supper tonight. Be careful with dem bull horns. I love you x

Colton started working at my close friend Logan's farm, helping collect the herds of cows and bulls on his farm, though Colton calls him uncle Logan—his wife lily, passed away a few years back and they never had kids of their own to help with the farm so Colton volunteered to help. Logan taught my boy, everything he knows about herding cattle, and he's gotten really good at it, but it doesn't stop me from worrying. Which reminds me—that darn bike of his too...

Colton: I love you too, momma x

I sigh happily, this boy...

Me: And be careful on that contraption of yours x

He's probably laughing at me right now, but I'm his momma, and momma's worry, plus he told me that he feels free whilst riding it, so who am I to stop him, I did however told him I had conditions to riding it and that was to wear protection and a helmet, he agreed after much persuasion.

Colton: I will, momma. I'll see you later x

Aww, he's a good boy, my son is, when he's not working at the farm, he's playing soccer for the school soccer team of which he's a captain of. My boy is gonna make something of himself, I know he is, a scout will discover his talents and that'll be it.

I'm so proud of my boy, so proud, after everything he went through to where he is now, I can't help but feel pride for my beautiful boy. He sees saint still, plus talks to him when saint is busy with work, he's the best male role model Colton could ever have. Everything I couldn't teach him, Saint did, I'll be thankful for the rest of my life for that man.

I occupy myself for a couple of hours until Colton comes home, I do a bit of laundry, cook the supper and clean around the house a little. Once I'm done, I sit with feet up watching the tv as I continue knitting the scarf I'm making for Colton, when I hear the rumble of his bike as he comes up the driveway and into the garage. I smile to myself as he's probably muttering to himself about me because I've stayed up late waiting for him.

But let's be honest, if you was told by your son that he had news, you'd wait up too, he appears in the doorway combing his fingers through his hair and walks over to me with a smile. "Hey, momma," he says kissing my cheek.
