Hi I'm Ava and I'm a freshman in high school and every year when new freshman come into high school the upperclassmen play pranks on us. It's a silly tradition but it's one that every upperclassmen enjoy. This year was the year where I met the most wonderful people.

The year was 2020 and I was nervous. Today was my first day at the high school in my small town. I had been lucky and have avoided all the upperclassmen until right now. The hall was empty and three upperclassmen who looked like seniors were walking towards me. There was no rooms I could hid in, and no way of turning back because that would just led me to a dead end.

I kept my head down and walked. They were getting closer, they were in reach. I thought the coast was clear as I logged my head but boy was I wrong. The biggest of the three grabbed me around the collar and lifted over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. They turned around and headed towards the locker room. They stopped in front of a closet and dropped me. They pulled the door open and shoved me in. The door slammed as they left laughing.

"Hey they got you too huh?" Someone asked behind me.

"Yea. They caught me in the hallway beside the dead end." I said turning  around. A guy with jet-black hair, brown eyes, and brown skin was sitting on a bucket.

"I'm Liam." He said standing up.

"Ava. Where's they get you?"

"In the locker room. I forgot my phone and went back to get it."

"Oh." Liam seemed nice enough to talk to.

"I found some cards wanna play?" He said lifting up a pack of cards. I shrugged and nodded.

"Sure."

We played for who knows how long. He was good to get a long with and a joker. He had three brothers and a little sister who was just three years old. He had divorced parents and step-siblings. He just moved here from New York and didn't know that this would happen.

"You hear that?" He said.

"I don't hear anything." I said.

"Shhh and listen."

Liam was right. The sound of footsteps could be heard from outside the door. I could tell by the sound that there were four people outside. I could also hear muffled talking. Liam got up from the makeshift card table and pressed his ears against the door.

"It's the principal. What's he doing here? There's also the three guys who caught us. Wait,....... I can hear more footsteps." After Liam said the he went silent and moved away from the door.

"What is it?" I whispered. He turned towards me a solemn look on his face.

"Our rescuer." He said cracking a smile. I hit him playfully on the shoulder.

"Liam!" I said.

The door opened and there stood our rescuer the janitor. We thanked him and left the closet.
