The stone danced its way down the lake and sunk to the bottom like a sunken ship. The sun hung low in the sky and Emily sat on the bank of the lake. She took a rock turned it then skipped it on the water. It made gentle ripples;disturbing the peacefulness.
She has everything she could ever want but she's missing one thing. The love of her life who died in a car crash. She sighed and closed her eyes leaning her head against a tree trunk.
"I wish he was still with me." Emily thought. Leaves began rustling, branches scraping against each other, dark clouds filling the sky. The wind picked up and started blowing hard then all was calm.
A demon stood in front of Emily and he looked like he just won the lottery. He bowed and smiled.
"You wish to bring back a dead loved one? So be it." He snapped his fingers and Emily's lover appeared. He was wearing the same clothes he died in and a smile was on his face.
"Em." He whispered reaching for her but pulling back as soon as he touched her hand. A small burn mark appeared on his fingertips and black marks appeared on Emily's.
"What happened?" She asked the demon.
"You see all these years he's been in hell not knowing love so whenever he tries to touch something that can feel love he gets burned and the other person gets marked. And once the person is fully marked their soul belongs to the underworld."
"But-"
"Ah ha ah! You already made the wish no going back." The demon said before vanishing.
Emily's liver stood staring at her like it was the first time he ever saw her. She stared back with the same look longing to touch him, feel his warmth, holding him close never letting go.
But that was not possible without losing her soul or burning her lover. She pondered on what she could do to fix the situation then she remembered she had gloves in her coat pocket.
She pulled them on and reached for her lover she grabbed his wrist only for him to scream out in pain. She let go and pulled the glove off. Her entire hand was marked in black. She frowned and stared at the water again.
"Emily..... I-" Her lover tried to speak but failed.
"You what?"
"I-" He tried again. Nothing.
"What?" She screamed in anguish.
"I-" He tried a third time but nothing came.
"Are you trying to say I love you or something?" He nodded and smiled a weak smile.
"Yes it seems I can't say it."
"Well, the demon did say you couldn't touch someone who could feel love maybe you can't say I love you either." She said tossing a stick into the water.
"I'm sorry Emily. It shouldn't have to end like this." He said before throwing his arms around her marking her soul as the devils and burning his soul.
