Thunder boomed in the night shaking the ground that a tower was standing on. The rain stomped on the roof waking Mary Elizabeth from her slumber. She always hated the rain ever since she could remember. It always woke her and caused her bad nightmares. The fire crackled in its iron cage. It was dying slowly, making the room colder by the second.

Mary Elizabeth walked over to the fire and grabbed wood from the wood pile. She put the wood into the fire and stood back up. Somehow the room felt colder instead of warmer. She fazed down and the fire had gone out.

"Damn it." She whispered.

She waited for the fire to come back to life but it didn't. She grunted and tried to start the fire manually. It took her a while but she got it going. It casted warm shadows across her face and the floor. The warmness in the room was making her tired. She yawned and headed to bed. But stopped short a creature-no, person was lying on her bed.

"Hey gorgeous." The person said in a deep chilling voice.

"Who are you?" Mary Elizabeth asked.

"Your prince in shining armor sweetheart. I'm here to grant you freedom but...." He stopped short.

"But what?"

"For a price." He stood up and in a blink of a eye was standing in front of Mary Elizabeth.

"What's that?" She whispered hoarsely.

"You grant me your soul when I free you. You see I need a soul to gain passage into a place I call home."

She didn't answer right away. Separating her soul from her body would mean two things. One she could be lifeless her whole life until death. Two she could die right after being freed and not have a chance to live.

"Would I live? If you take my soul I mean."

"Yes,you will beautiful." He said taking a piece of her hair between his fingers.

"Fine then we have a deal." She said taking as much courage as she could muster into her words.

"Oh goodie. Close your eyes." He said with enthusiasm.

"Why?"

He sighed and said, "In order to get you out of here I have to create a barrier between worlds and that requires dark magic which I can create. So close you eyes."

She did as she was told and closed her eyes. A feeling of dreadfulness filled her stomach and she felt like she could never be happy again. She opened her eyes and she was standing outside the tower.

The person waved his hand and Mary Elizabeth's soul was sucked out of her.

"It is done." He exclaimed and vanished into the darkness.
