Alex,Rex,Jamie,Kevin, and I have been chosen out of a elite group of scientists to work the time machine. If proved successful we are to report back with our findings and leave the rest up to HQ. The lab room is cold as the five of us enter the time machine and strap in. We are traveling to  the year 3030,where we expect we have figured out the cure to cancer.

We look at each other with a confident look and push the button. The world outside becomes dark but light. It doesn't take us long before we hit the ground to realize that the time machine worked.

"I'll go first." I said as I unbuckled and climbed out of the hatchet.

"Be careful." Rex warns me. Her brown hair escaping from behind her ear. I smile and nod. The world outside is bleak. It has no color, no joy, no sign of life.  But then the sounds of fighting reach my ears and I turn and see buildings burning, and bombs exploding.

This isn't at all what we imagined life would be like in the year 3030. Rex joins my side and gaps in horror at the scene we are watching. She cowers and hide her face in my arm. I offer her comfort with my one arm.

"What's going on out there? What do you see?" Alex asks from inside the hatchet.

"Look for yourselves." I said. Alex,Jamie, and Kevin climb out of the hatchet and stare at the scene in front of us.

"Holy sh*t." Jamie says running her hand through her hair.

"Let's go investigate further." Alex said running off the time machine. I caught him at the last moment and pushed him back on board.

"No we can't. We have to report back to HQ." I explained heading back towards the hatchet.

"We can't just leave the future like this. We have to do something!" Alex said turning around to face me. Jamie and Rex both nodded in agreement with Alex.

"But dude we were told to report straight back with any news of the future. We have news of the future. We need to tell them so that they can prepare for it or at least try to prevent it." Kevin said coming to stand by my side.

"Kevin's right." I said climbing into the hatchet. Kevin follows me down and we hear Alex saying, "You only think he's right because he's your best friend."

Kevin's face turned to anger and I knew that something bad was about to happen.

"Dude let it go. He's just trying to get a rise from you." I whisper to Kevin while starting up the time machine. We could hear the others climbing off the time machine and walking away.

"Ready?" I whispered sitting down and buckling up. Kevin nodded in his seat. The time machine started up, darkness surrounded us, lights appeared flashing, blinding us. Then we were back on the ground.
