As fast as humanly possible, you and Chris run hand-in-hand towards room 114. Reaching the end of the hallway, a male nurse stops you both, "I'm sorry, you can't go in there."

"But that's my boyfriend!"

"Ma'am, the doctors are trying to do the best they can--"

"You don't understand! I need to see him!"

"I'm sorry, I'm going to have to ask you to leave. We'll call you back if he becomes well enough."

"If? IF? Are you implying they may not be able to save him??"

Unable to handle the thought of losing Jake, you shove past the nurse and look into the window of the hospital room.

"Oh my god," your breathing almost completely stops and your stomach twists and turns violently.

The cardiac monitor was a steady ear piercing beep. A flat line.

"He's gone into cardiac arrest."

"I need the defibulator NOW,"

Still looking through the window, you see a nurse has started to administer medication into the IV line. Another nurse had already cut Jake's shirt off as the doctor placed two paddles on his bare chest. “Charging to 200! Ready! Clear!” There was a clicking sound followed by a loud crack as Jake's back arched off the bed. The mointer kept ringing. "I need another shot of adrenaline!" “Charging! Clear!” His back arched again. But the alarm still kept ringing. “Charging! Clear!” Jesus Christ.
