"NO"

An ear piercing screech from a woman in the waiting room startles me, waking myself up.

Looking around, I notice I fell asleep in the hospital. What can awful place this is.

Before sitting up right, I turn my head to look at the woman again. Taking a few minutes to listen to the doctor talking to her, I notice she was holding a mans hand beside her. "I'm sorry, there was nothing we could do," the doctor says looking down at the floor. The woman continued on talking about how they have to do something and the husband just sat on the chair beside her whispering "shh it's gonna be ok honey."

"BUT MY BABY," she cried, collapsing into her husbands lap.

'Her baby died?' I think to myself in shock. "...Me and Jake were going to have a baby," I whisper out loud with tears welling up in my eyes.

"Look who's up," Dave says walking over to me. His smile is the only thing that has made me feel happy these last couple days.

"I brought you a tea," he says handing me a Starbucks cup. "I got the largest size. Looks like you need it since you refuse to eat anything."

I glare up at his big brown eyes taking the cup of tea.

"Drink up," he smiles.

"So, how are you handling this?" He asks taking a seat right beside me and gracefully putting his hand on my thigh. I can tell he's seriously concerned about me but also just trying to make conversation.

"Fine. " I say putting the tea  on the ground between my ankles so I have free hands to pull my sweater over my head.

"Fine isn't a feeling (Y/N)."

"It's a stupid motherfucking question so you're getting a stupid motherfucking answer, David."

Standing up and marching away from him as quick as humanly possible, I think to myself all I want to know is how Jacob is. Why isn't anyone telling me anything...

"Excuse me, I was just wondering if I could check on the status of a patient," I question leaning on the top of the reception desk.

"What's the patients name?"

"Jacob Hogg--"

"Oh my god, (Y/N)." Twisting my body around I see who's calling my name.

Jake's parents were here.

A few seconds pass of hugging - probably the tightest hug I've ever experienced - and then she said the question everyone's been wondering. "How is he?"

"I was just asking the nurse here," I say forwarding my comment in her direction.

"Um...I'm just going to go ask Dr Jonhson, give me a few minutes..."

What's with all the hesitation?

"What's happening?" Amanda, Jake's sister, says in a worried tone, shuffling her feet toward the group of Jake's friends and family. The rest of the band also walked over. Everyone had a mixture of panic and exhaustion on their face.

"You must be Jacob's family," the doctor says pacing his way down the florescent-lighted hallway.

Look at his fucking fake grin. This can't be good.

"How is he?" Jake's mom mumbles clenching onto her husbands hand.

30 seconds pass without anyone making the slightest noise. Everyone was hardly even breathing.

"I'm sorry to say but..."

My heart stops,

"He's not doing so well at the moment. He's alive, but there's not much we can do..."

My knees start to shake, almost unable to hold up my body weight.

"I'm very sorry." The doctor went on about how after Jake went into cardiac arrest he went into a drug-induced coma as a counter-reactor; but his body couldn't handle it. The drug shut down everything in his body because it was necessary for it to attack the illness, but it was taken too far.

Mascara stained tears and loud sobs leave your throat as you run as fast as your shaking and weak legs allow. Reaching his hospital room, "No Jacob," you fall backwards through the doorway. The rest of the group catch up to you as you enter the room, staring at his body. Just laying there. Not even a twitch or a flutter of his eyelids.

"JACOB" you cry falling on the ground right beside the left side of his bed.

"No," your sobs echo the room as you shake Jake's unconscious arm like a rag doll.

"Jacob," everyone protests with mixed sounds of quiet and loud cries. But their emotions were suddenly interrupted by the sound of a loud beep echoing the room. You stand up, still grabbing onto his arm with both your hands. "What's going on?" Jake's mother yells in a panic. The heart rate monitor began flashing and the alarm started to ring. Everyone just stood there in horror staring at the fragile body in the hospital bed.

No. No. No!

"Don't you fucking do this Jacob. Don't you fucking dare." you cry, bending down so your face is at the same height as his.

"(Y/N), come here," Dave tries pulling you away.

"NO"

"(Y/N), we need to get out of the way so they can help him."

And then it was all a burr of doctors and nurses in blue scrubs rushing around saying medical terms. "NO, JACOB, NO," you scream as Dave pulls you by the waist out of the room. Kicking and trying to get free, you scream Jake's name over and over. Then the door closed.

"No, Jake..." your screams trail off into sobs as you cup your face in your hands."Don't you fucking leave me."

The alarm kept ringing as the entire group of family and friends crowded around the door trying to get a good look through the tiny window. All except for you and Dave. You fall to the ground shakily, noticing Dave was the only thing holding you up. He sits beside you in shock.

And the alarm kept ringing.
